December 9th Coral Close Ups!

I borrowed a macro lens from a friend of mine before buying one for myself. Trying to figure out how to use it. Much more challenging than I thought. The colour and lighting seems to be thrown off in every shot, even under the same camera settings.

Here's the best of the crop though … let me know what you think.

Lots of frags, but its -44 with the wind chill right now here in Thompson … not really a good season for shipping haha.

I intend to ship in the spring of next year though when the weather is more cooperative.

Thanks a lot guys. Kien are you a Nikon or Canon guy? Your shots are always crazy, any tips for shooting macro to improve the quality of my shots?

I'm a Canon guy. Not because Canon's are the best cameras on earth though. Just simply because it was on sale  Nikons are just as great really.

If you're not already doing so, shoot with a tripod.
turn off the flow in the tank when shooting
To increase your depth of field stop down your aperture and use a lower shutter speed. This is where a tripod and turning off flow helps a lot with motion blur.

Very nice pics. Healthy Corals too ;) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I gave the lens back to the friend I borrowed it from. I think I'm gonna pick one up and a decent tripod. My tripod is flimsy and garbage. Perhaps I'll find a deal during boxing week.

ya, definitely get a decent tripod. I started with a cheap flimsy one too and the wind blew it over, along with my camera and lens one day

I since got a Manfrotto 190XPROB. an awesome and bullet proof tripod ! And if you're not a wimp like I am they make a model up from this one that's a bit beefier in the legs.
