I hate astrea snails

Are they not the stupidest organism ever? I mean what kind of animal tips over and can't right itself?
Every time i walk past my tank there are two or three hopelessly stranded on their back. And they are constantly falling off the rocks and glass.

I'm about to start throwing them at the wall... to see if i can make them stick!

sorry, i needed to vent :)

Does yours try to swim?

Mine does that occasionally (trying to see how it feels like to sleep on the back) but luckily, it happens near something where they can grab to get upright.

Snails that have pyrimid type shells including turbos are not reef spieces. They come from flat plains of sea grasses. There are no rocks for them to fall off of so never needing to evolve to right themselves.

To me it's smart not to waste energy with evolving a function that serves no purpose. Just saying..

This line can make snail police arrest you!

they have a symbiotic relationship with hermit crabs. If it were not for them hermit crabs wouldn't get new homes..

My largest hermit just bought a new penthouse last week. Its gotta be 3cm2

i figured it was safe here. I would never say such a thing in an "I love astrea snails" thread!

They are great for bare bottom frag tanks just for pure algea eating skills. But if you want self erecting (who doesn't) snails and willing to pay bit extra, go get some trochus, they are my fav snails for all around algea eating.
