Is this right? I see 3" and 4" specimens for $60 in the local shops.

Is'nt that in California?

Captive grown stuff is always going to be a little more given that it has been stabilized.

SoloSK71 09-30-2013 07:50 PM

Except it does not specify captive grown. ORA was breeding some up but these are not ORA.

It's Marine Depot, they aren't a hack n' slash operation.

Anyway, what exactly is the question? Are you asking of these are overpriced? I suppose that's just a matter of subjective opinion :)

USA market and canadian market in most cases(as this) cant be compared ...two different reefing worlds....not always a bad thing :)

I bought a very nice 1 inch ora white and blue for $80 ,grew fantastic with no special care until my tank crashed .

My problem is that it is marketing, not fact.

It is not stated anywhere that it is ORA, or captive propagation, or even captive raised and fragged. From what I read it is wild caught and fragged with a few buzz words of "red ones do better in captivity" to bring in the buyers. At that price I could buy a $70 red flowerpot from a chain store and cut it up into nine or ten $40 frags.

If the said it was ORA or SA or otherwise captive propagated then I could see it.

In other words "it dont matter. You cant get corals from the states anyways"

Some people buy frags for $60 and when they grow out than cut off another 1" piece and sell that for $60

Than theres others that'll sell the same piece for $10. It's just pricing.

Not actually true. You can quite easily. Just pre-supply the CITES documents and a $10 business registration company name and be willing to get a minimum order and you are good to go.
