Bring BRS order to Canada
My BRS shipment have arrive at the other side of our border and I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. My question is do I have to pay any duty to bring them to this side. I have never done this before and I'm kind a warry about it.
Thanks for your information. |
Dutys and etc. depends heavily on the custom officer you deal with at the time of crossing back after you pick up the goods.
Generally speaking, anything under $100 they'll let you through without any hassle. Anything over $300 and they'll usually have you go in and pay duty. Just make sure you declare everything and have your receipts with you incase you need to go in and pay. tell them exactly what you brought in, in this case. "aquarium supplies" valued at "xxx amount" and you should be good. |
OK, I will do that. Thanks

Oh, also I bought a lots of bulks. Do they open these?
|
Next time you should just have BRS ship it direct to your door as they cover all the duty costs and their shipping is fairly reasonable.

I've done this many times with my BRD orders under $300 and have never paid duty. (Even though I don't mind.
Just as stated above, just have all of your receipts and paperwork and you'll be fine. If you don't lie then you don't have to worry about anything. Lying is bad. I mainly have it sent to the border because 1) I work close to it. 2) I can get a tank of gas while I'm there 3) I always hate waiting so long for things to get shipped to my door. On many occasions things that would take 3 days shipped if I live in the US take up to 3 weeks! I hate that. Remember. Lying is bad. |
Also you wont pay duty, what you might pay is tax....which you would have paid if you shipped to Canada anyway. I like getting mine shipped to the us and picking it up for the free shipping too and if customs let you through that means no shipping and no tax.
|
Duty is only paid on items that are from countries that Canada doesn't have a free trade agreement with.
Get, and pst if you're in one of those provinces, will need to be paid. Although you can bring back x amount without paying. That amount depends how long you were there for and how often you go there. |

I usually go down to states for fuel up and grocery shopping and I believe within 24 hours, we can only bring back Canadian $50 value per person. I spent more than US$240, so that is one of the reason I warry about and also I don't like a lots of paper work.
Anyway, thanks guys I'll pick them up later today. |

If they do make you pay tax its fast and easy mm you just show the receipt. |
I find Drs Foster & Smith great for shipping heavy stuff. I always get my salt from them and they can ship it to my door cheaper than i can drive to Winnipeg.
Their selection available to Canadians is great. I just use BRS for the additives and RO/DI filters etc. |

Drs Foster & Smith have a flat rate of $18 shipping to Canada plus an 18% international surcharge.
I can get 2 200Gal boxes of Reef Crystals to my door for: Reef Crystals x2 $107.98 Shipping $18.00 Ontario Tax $19.44 Total $145.52 Cheaper than a tank of gas! |
That's like the price of the h2ocean I'd start to try out. Don't want instant ocean, don't want seachem reef salt cuz it leaves a residue,
