Wife's birthday present

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps2501315e.jpg

Built the tank, still need to install glass and acrylic and drill holes

Stand still needs the doors finished black and the handles installed (put blumotion hinges on it because I didn't have any other hinges for inset doors)

After all that's done I still have to build a 20"x20"x14" sump for it

Hardware on it will be:
a 20" maxspect razor led
Speed wave return pump
Modded tlf pb150 reactor for bio pellets powered by a mj400
Mp10es
Still undecided on the skimmer tho

spit.fire 08-12-2013 09:29 PM

Not gonna lie its not what I wanted for size but its not my tank lol

I wanted to go 14" tall

She told me she wants me to fill it with my sps

Kraken 08-12-2013 10:06 PM

its a very sleek tank. What kind of overflow will you be installing?

spit.fire 08-12-2013 10:25 PM

Coast to coast with herbie

Coralgurl 08-12-2013 10:59 PM

Very very dangerous combination!!!! At least its something you enjoy together!!! And fragging is cheaper...lol. Can't wait to see it salty!!!

spit.fire 09-16-2013 08:43 PM

Bout time for an update, so breaking my leg put a serious delay on this build but it's finally starting to come together

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps2e594350.jpg

In place and filling with water

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psd53da853.jpg

Water change hose was too short by about a foot so my preggo wife had to hold the hose while it was filling

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps136ae893.jpg

Still waiting on parts for the skimmer, pb550 reactor filled with hydroton pulled from my frag tank

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psc50a5dbf.jpg

Liverock from my frag tank

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ps81b73279.jpg

Weir with water

The light is temporary until its cycled and I can move all the sps and gobies from my tank to hers

She'll be getting my maxspect razor and I'm going to shut my nano down because of a losing battle against bryopsis

kien 09-16-2013 08:50 PM

I see you've got your wife trained. She's laying down, sideways, holding a hose. HAWT.

What's the hydroton for ?

IMO it's the best liverock substitute/ bio media I've used

Ah, you're using it as bio/bacteria media. Cool!

Curious about the hydroton. I had never heard of it so looked it up. Seems pretty cheap, esp compared to either the fluval rings or the eheim substrat. Does the hydroton work as well as those but is cheaper, or does it actually work better? Sounds like it would be a great option for setting up a QT.

Cheaper, doesn't plug up with detritus, it's very porous, perfect for a qt because you just boil it to sterilize it when your done and reuse it. I seed it with my big tank in case I need to setup a qt then just swap reactors, I have 2 vertex reactors full so I can pull one off to speed up cycling on other tanks

spit.fire 09-18-2013 08:22 PM

Starting to shut my nano down...
I lost the battle of bryopsis so ill be dipping and quarantining and eventually transferring all my brown/half dead sticks to her tank so they can recover

spit.fire 09-19-2013 08:28 PM

Got the pump for her skimmer today

gregzz4 09-20-2013 04:53 AM

I know you've made your mind up, but ...

If it's bryopsis, why not try some lettuce nudis ?
I put 4 in my tank last year and although I lost 2 to MP10 suicides, I still have 2 and have not seen any bryopsis since probably last x-mas
I guess there's either some unseen bryopsis, or enough other food for them to live on, and they're still green

I've been wanting to plumb my nano into my frag tank and I don't want to risk getting anything in my frag tank so I figure completely sterilizing it is the way to go

And the wife already called dibs on all my coral

Lol ya I grabbed 1 for my tank too

spit.fire 09-25-2013 09:24 PM

So last night I hooked up a diy ato to the tank to get me by until I get the parts for my super secret new design for an ato.

Skimmer is running a lot better now that the ato is on

Got 2 coats of paint on the doors and 1 left to go. Now all that's left is to clean up the cords and add more corals from my frag tank

My wife got mad at me last night for putting a frag rack in her tank.... She doesn't seem to understand why her tank needs a frag rack when I have a 112g frag tank...

Phhh... Women

kien 09-25-2013 09:26 PM

I'm with your wife on this one. No frag racks in display tanks!!

I found the clown gobies like to hang out on the rack.... Without it the end up in the overflow

spit.fire 11-05-2013 07:07 PM

So after last weeks power outage I lost all the fish but the corals are doing good, added more corals on Friday ( mostly to the frag rack)
