Flatworm warning
Just giving everyone a heads up that either golds or big als have flat worms. Started a tank back up in april and I have only added stuff from golds once (my most recent purchase) and a fiji yellow leather from big als 2 months ago. all corals were dipped but I guess some made it into my nano
ha just my luck after laying low for the past 2 years |
Thanks for the heads up buddy.
I have stopped buying coral from Big Al's... Too bloody expensive. |

Unfortunately I've seen flatworms at big als more times than I can count. I also brought home the little bastards a couple years ago from them that forced the shutdown of a good tank.
Pitty they knowingly sell this stuff to people... |
In all honesty guys I just listed off the two locations I purchased from since my start up. But with previous experience with flat worms I would have seen them quickly after adding the leather from big als. After adding the zoa frag from golds within 2 weeks flat worms were present.
Just be warned about these 2 locations. golds has always been one of my top locations for purchases and still will be, at least its a fixable problem |
Did you notify both retailers? Just in case it's a problem they haven't caught onto yet.

What kind of flatworms? Like planarian ?
|
I appreciate this warning so very very very very much. Thank you for it.
|
they for sure aren't Planarian. Those were the ones that infested my 60gal a few years back.
found this picture, looks very similar to what I have http://www.captivereefs.com/forum/at...910d1323328762 |
Pretty much any "reef safe wrasse" will destroy those little buggers.
|
picked up some FWE tonight as a last resort. going hunting for a small 6 line on the weekend
|
Are you sure a six line is really what you want ?
Maybe something less psychotic, like a canary wrasse? |

I totally agree with this statement.. |
go for any other wrasse other then those six lines. the yellow are cool i used to have 3 of them and that chumed together through the tank.

I had clear flatworms similar to the first photo a while back in my 9 gallon.
A dose of PraziPro took care of them fast without any visible harm to the corals. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=82942 |
If your tank would sustain a Yellow Coris Wrasse (tankmates? size of tank?) then they are great option for flatworms. They are not aggressive like many other worm-hating Wrasses. Both of my reefs have Yellow Coris Wrasses in them. They are good janitors. :)
