Weird things fish do.....

My blue throat trigger does laps around my mp40 constantly, not in the flow in front, but around it. All the time except when I feed or he thinks he's getting fed or when Im sitting in front of the tank. Sometimes my hippo tang joins in, not chasing.....just following along.

What weird things do your fish do??

jorjef 07-11-2013 04:06 AM

I have a Melanurus wrasse that does the same thing to the mag float.

daplatapus 07-11-2013 04:21 AM

My yellow tang waits until my MP40 goes off pulsating flow and onto constant then swims right into the centre trying to pluck algae of it, then when he gets tired, turns full broadside and allows the current to blow him to the other side of the tank :)

my Bi Colour Blenny does flips and goes wacko in the MP40 flow

gregzz4 07-11-2013 04:25 AM

We have a captive bred clown (Goober) who likes to 'own' the center LR tower
He tries to boss around anyone who hangs out too long in his 'area', and gets lots of exercise as everyone else passes by/hangs out

Funny thing is, he keeps picking/poking at the RBTAs, swimming between the pair and poking at their tips like he can make them go away

We thought maybe he'd start a host thingy and won't encourage it as the nems are too small for a thrashing clown

Crazy fish
If he only knew what he should be doing

Oh, that reminds me ...

Our Starry blenny likes to come out of resting to run up and down the corner glass as he poops all over whoever is in the way :twised:

Funny fish you guys have!

My blue sided wrasse is, well I think, super friendly. He swims into my hands, I can scoop him if I want. One day I was doing some cleaning in the tank and not paying attention, he started nipping at the back of my arm until I played with him a bit.

daplatapus 07-11-2013 01:39 PM

My starry blenny likes to sleep draped over my algae clip. One night we were looking at the tank after lights out and I guess the current slowly dislodged her and she ever so slowly slid off the algae clip and didn't wake up 'till she hit the sand at the bottom. Holy Cow did she wake with a start. She swam out of there like there like she was being chased by the hounds of hell, lol. We laughed so hard.

Thanks. Ya, I saw the MVI extension. I have Adobe Flash Player, but it won't play ...

Does it play for others? It's a photobucket movie. Just click on the pic.

daplatapus 07-12-2013 04:13 AM

.flv file extension. I installed a free version of Final Media Player on my now ancient notebook a long time ago. It can play many different video formats/codecs. Your vid plays fine on my notebook with Win XP. When clicking the video graphic I'm presented with the choice to save or play the file. I chose play & Final Media Player opened automatically to play the vid.

Plays for me. I just use Firefox on a W7 PC, didn't have to install anything... Maybe I already had the right plug-ins, but works fine for me.

Coralgurl 07-12-2013 03:24 PM

Played for me as well. Jan, my trigger does the same thing around the powerhead! Makes me feel better knowing he's not "special"

My clown is so funny , he likes me so much he will even jump out of the water to show his affection , and by affection I mean bite the @#$% out of me ! I have to use a wooden spoon to get stuff off the bottom and if my hand gets to close to the top BAM he bites me . I tell my friends but no one belives my tiny clown is the devil.

I have a one spot fox face that stops any fighting in my tank when the two clowns would start he would swim between them then I just added a pbt and he stayed between the pbt and my hippo tank any time they'd start to chase eachother. His like the peace keeper of the tank.

verongome 07-22-2013 11:04 AM

Hahaha thats quite funny stories out there. I am glad i came up to this thread:biggrin:

noirsphynx 07-22-2013 02:25 PM

My Longfin fairy wrasse does circles in one spot like a dog chasing it's tail:lol:.

michika 07-22-2013 02:47 PM

I have a Naso that likes to swim to the middle of my tank and then just kind of go limp and let the current push her around for about 5 feet before she swims back to the middle and starts again.

Scary as all crap the first time you see it because you think there is something wrong with my fish. But nope, she is just being silly.

Coralgurl 07-22-2013 05:47 PM

I love these stories!!! Who woulda thunk fish could be so entertaining???

Keep em coming!!

newreefer_59 07-22-2013 10:27 PM

My clown trigger (these fish are psycho, but I love then anyway) a few years back would come to the surface when being fed and would come out of the water slightly to nip at the food while I am placing it in. he would then let out a growl if you let him chase it for a bit. I could nit belive it at first, but yes, they can growl.

Coralgurl 07-22-2013 11:32 PM

I've heard my female clarkii clown "bark" at my occ clowns when chasing out of her 2 nems....yes fish make noise!
