Algae ID and tips to fight
Hi
last couple of days I've got an algae outbreak. Never had it before so want to ask first to ID it and if anyone had what was most efficient way to fight. I should mention that recently I have increased Blue and Royal Blue light intensity and duration. it is brown fluffy algae and It covered my frag rack and my Gorgonia Picture: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3801/9...0beb10e1_b.jpg |
anyone?
|
looks like some sort of sponge to me, not sure at all though
|
It looks like slime algae. Like Cyano.
Use a turkey baster to clean it off before it dies. |
I am using teeth brush and tryng to brush it out.
Better picture: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2833/9...0f583a5a_b.jpg what would be my options to fight it? |
Water changes would help.
What are your parameters? esp nitrates phosphates Try and suck out as much of the stuff as you can. |
I am running GFO, Carbon and BioPellets. PO3 is 0.06, Nitrate no detectable. Trying to brush it out!
|
Is the algae forming bubbles?
|
not really, it kind of fluffy and difficult to blow it with buster. Need to be brushed.
|
Hard to tell from the pictures but are you sure its an algae and not a bacteria?

Would help if you could get a close up of the organism itself...
|
Do you have access to a microscope? You wouldn't need a very high powered one to tell you what family you're dealing with. The course of treatment is highly dependent on a positive ID. Could be dinos, could be a cyanobacteria, could be some other random form of algae.

So finally managed to take a decent picture. And it starts to grow on rocks as well. Anyone can chime?
