Evergrow D120 LED

Pretty sure I'm going to purchase the Evergrow D120 LED from Reef Supply Canada. For $175 each they are well priced.

http://www.reefsupplycanada.com/d120...ight-16-light/

I found good reviews on both the net and this forum.

But looking to open the topic up to try get some more up to date reviews on them.

The specs seem good. 55 x 3w LED. 16" fixture so I need two for my 4' 70g.

These are in my price range and won't be buying Radion or Sol as too much to drop for me.

Please, if you have input on these lights, please provide.

Nick at RSC has been very helpful and his reputation for customer service is good too.

Help me out. Pics if you gottem!

Evergrow

There is a good thread on these from about a month back. Everyone I've talked to that have the lights love them. Price is very good too. The full spectrum ones have a purple tint to them in person. U won't find a better light for the price.

I saw the thread. Thanks. Though it was older than that.

I've got an evergrow it2060 and I love the lights and I switched from ai sols. Corals are loving it too. Its basically same light just controllable and covers 30" instead of 24". Mine came with a 3 year warranty too. Good value if you don't need all the fancy gimmicks.

Gimmicks as in a lightning show? Yes not required.

I posted a review on Nicks website on the IT2040 that I got a couple of weeks ago. Same light , different control method. I've also got a few pics on my tank build but they don't show the true colour. I used to run 14k MH and much prefer the colour from this light.

I did manage to burn two frags that had been sitting under a 250MH. They faded badly at 24inches under the 2040 within 2 days with it set at 60%. On the flip side a frag that had done nothing but brown under MH started to grow almost overnight and turned green within a week - it really has been astonishing to see.

IT2080

I have an IT2080 over my 120gal reef. my corals are loving it my Zoas look amazing now. it's a bit purple but i'm still adjusting the intensity. I was running power compacts before so i'm bring it up slowly, still at 40%. I can't wait tell i can get them to 60%

i would recommend Evergrows lights for the price.

i got mine threw Nick as well and he was awesome to deal with.

Just one?

seapony 05-04-2013 03:53 AM

yup just one, mine is propped up about 4 inches above my tank (haven't gotten around to hanging them) and the light reaches the edges, i'm using the 120 optics. I got my mushrooms on the edges and they are ****ed about the amount of light they were getting had to move them to the bottom of my tank. I just have softies and LPS so i don't know if you will want more light, but i find with the IT2080 being 32" long it works well centered over my 4' tank.

I have the IT2040 over my frag tank and the colour and ease of control with the remote is to kool but i wish i could take a pic to show how the colours on the corals pop but i run it about 16k

Ok. Here's a rookie question... You said you run about 16k. Kelvin is adjustable? And how do you know the value?

H2o2 05-04-2013 01:29 PM

You can do a custom set up and adjust the blue and white ratio

mseepman 05-04-2013 02:36 PM

I have an IT2040 as well but haven't got it running over a tank yet. Picking the tank up later this month from concepts. The light is great, its full spectrum and customisable with the built in control. A little more expensive that the d120 but a little more controllable.

Starry 05-04-2013 09:17 PM

I have the d120 over my jbj28. no complaints. good bang for the price. getting decent growth.

paddyob 05-04-2013 10:14 PM

thanks for all the input.

I really have no reason for not trying these.

My tank is almost cycled... from the rebuild. No corals in the tank... so its the right time to switch lights out.

Probably sell my 48" 6 bulb tek. im worried, as the tek is good.... but I hate buying new bulbs. Just spending too much money. No money on bulbs = more money for fish.

Did anyone think this D120 is not bright enough? I run both channels at 100% and still my 4 x 39watt T5 is brighter. My tank is 3ft x 2ft x 2ft tall. I run 1 D120 about 8 inches above the water. The light doesn't penetrate deep enough. Does anyone in lower mainland have any of this I can take a look or compare? Maybe mine is defective

bt00386 05-08-2013 06:20 AM

One d120 won't cover 3x2x2 which may be the reason why its not as bright. That being said I have the same dimension tank and is plenty bright with my it2060. I'm in surrey if you want to compare.

Yea from my research.... 36" is over the absolute max spread.

Anyone else find them not so bright? I'm looking at my T5s and starting to get hesitant to switch.

Everything says "go for it" but my T5s are wonderful. Just tired of bulbs. Having a high quality fixture and then replacing it is a tad scary. Lol.

My tank is also 2 feet deep (but only 20 inches wide). I bleached corals sitting on the sand with the unit set to 60 percent. My light sits only 2-3 inches from the surface but it is also going through a glass top. I am currently running at 40 percent ( I actually have the IT2040 but it's the same lights)

Cubeman 05-08-2013 02:29 PM

I should add that the light doesn't appear as bright to my eyes as my old 250MH set up but the reaction of my corals is telling me the usable light they are getting is more than the MH.

mseepman 05-08-2013 03:40 PM

Its true that many people indicate that the overall light with LED's doesn't appear as bright but the corals tell us that they are getting a lot more from a lot less with the LED's. I have a DIY fixture over my main display and at 40% during peak times I'm bleaching a lot of my stuff. I don't have my frag tank up yet but the IT2040 I have has the LEDS more tightly packed than my DIY fixture so I imagine I'll be having the same struggle with it being too much unless I cut it back at first.

milou 05-09-2013 04:49 AM

Ok I borrowed a par reader from a friend. Comparing between T5 and LED. At full blast on both channels, 24" tall tank straight down, 1/4 down from surface where the first coral - 305, on sand 105. My 16" tall breeder with 4 x 39 watt T5 - first coral on top - 176, sand 98. And to my astonishment, my 40 gal breeder tank looks much brighter than my 3 ft x 2ft x 2ft tall tank under this LED. Looks like through naked eye this LED put out more intensity than i can see.

Magma 05-09-2013 05:04 AM

I have 3 units over my tank, all running at about 50% and I have to watch where corals goes because I can bleach them way to easily. I lost a few frags when I first started with these lights because of that.

About 8".

Also. I can barely hear the fans. Six total. Run very quiet and this thing is cool to the touch.

I have mine about 12" above the tank, same thing all 3 units are quiet and cool to the touch. I have had mine since about the end of March and I love them

Looks good, that is a pretty clever mounting system you have there :)

Look forward to seeing some coral growth. Keep us updated.

Glad you are happy with the lights.
