How about that tank of the quarterly?

I know our totm has been switched to tot quarterly....Just curious when is the next one.

I was visiting another forum and they had a totm revisit. I thought it was pretty cool just to see how are the tanks from previous totm.

Coralgurl 04-30-2013 09:55 PM

I love the idea of reposting all the past TOTM winners!! Not sure how far back it could go, but a year or 2 would be awesome!!!!!!!

Bblinks 04-30-2013 10:11 PM

I would also like to nominate Kien's tank for totm and if someone have another candidate in mind please don't be shy to put forward.

Delphinus 04-30-2013 10:12 PM

That is a neat idea.

The next TOTM will be out shortly. I was aiming for May 1 but that might not happen unless I pull an all nighter tonight, we'll see :p.

But yes, there will be one soon. Promise!

Why is there not Reefer of the month. We all know that guy that helps everyone out with whatever, why not single them out for a collective thank you, you rock!

we have the M.V.P and its been a tough find to replace me :mrgreen::mrgreen:

why not a small tank for totm seems like if you dont have 100g or larger tank or sps mega stocked you dont have a chance at totm...

would be nice to see something different for a change

Bblinks 04-30-2013 11:15 PM

We can alway nominated a few tanks monthly or quarterly for everyone to vote. I think we can all agree it's even harder to keep a nice pico tank then those monsterous sps tanks. I am down with any tanks to be nominated.

I agree with this. There could be different criteria for each month such as softy or LPS dominated, 20g and under, etc. Not everyone keeps SPS or has the space and time for a huge tank but still have excellent tanks. I bet more people would be inclined to share photos of their tanks then as well.

BlueTang<3 05-01-2013 01:29 AM

I believe it's not a Sps thing there have been a couple zoa dominated tanks in the near past. As for size the current one is only a 90 so it's not a nano but not a monster tank either.

christyf5 05-01-2013 01:37 AM

We don't base any of our TOTMs on certain criteria. Mostly we just look around on various threads and whoever has posted tank pics recently gets thrown in the pile. We like to feature active members and not base anything on tank size, contents etc. Mostly if we see a nice looking/unique/techy etc tank by an active member we feature it. It seems to me we have less people posting photos of their tanks but I dunno, maybe I'm just not paying attention enough

As for various other things like featured member and such, its just a matter of time that we don't seem to have anymore. Four out of the five moderators have small children that just take up too much of our time at the moment so a few things, like the TOTM, have had to be scaled back. I used to have a ton of free time for things like TOTM and the reference library but man, kids just suck whatever free time you have.

Definitely keep the ideas coming though, its likely we can pull some of them off on a smaller scale. I am really liking a quarterly featured member idea, even if its just a nomination and tag next to their name

I find the same thing also that is why I suggested having some modest criteria now and then so people who don't have extravagant tanks may feel more inclined to post pics of their tanks. It doesn't have to be through TOTM though, there could be other incentives.

Well we've always encouraged people to post tank photos and not just for TOTM (some think they're just posting tank photos FOR TOTM). Its not a contest, its just a showcase. I don't really know what other incentives we could offer, the idea is just to share tank photos because you want to share your tank with everyone. I don't think there should necessarily have to be a reward (although its nice )

I think people are starting to post less since they don't have the time to hear BS from some people. Honestly, this hobby is becoming more like "follow the strict laws" than "enjoy what you love to do". Just my 0.05 (0.02 is no longer valid )

I wasn't really refering to a reward, maybe "incentive" was a bad choice in wording. Doing a forum just for tank photos with sub-forums such as LPS dominated, under 1 year, etc. would perhaps encourage more tank photos. It would also save time for the mods to go searching through all threads. I would like to say that it could be made so that members could rate photos (hence the incentive to get good ratings) to encourage some effort but I could see that possibly turning negative too and defeating the purpose. Just an idea, I have no clue whether it would actually encourage more photos or not.

when i go through the old totm threads seems like they are almost all large tanks , the last tank that was under 90g was in 2008?

http://www.canreef.com/ftotm/jan08/index.php

unless im reading it wrong seems all the tanks are of a good size and no nanos

the last small tank was a 30g in 2007?

http://www.canreef.com/ftotm/mar07/index.php

maybe im reading it wrong....

Delphinus 05-01-2013 03:56 AM

Personally, I love the look of a good mature SPS tank but I do try specifically to avoid selecting SPS-only tanks repeatedly because not everyone is into that, so we do try to at least alternate with something else.

We don't specifically target large tanks... The last one I put up wasn't a particularly large setup and it wasn't that long ago :p Here's the link in case you missed it: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=91591

no you're right, however it seems like those that have small tanks just don't post photos? maybe there are less people that post photos of their small tanks? maybe people that have large tanks also have big egos that need to be stroked so they post more photos? who knows? have you been in the nano forum lately? its deader than a doornail, if it weren't for the nano contest it wouldn't even have been posted in for the past year.

Aquattro 05-01-2013 04:59 AM

It's also a case of the staff can't read all the threads, and we do miss a lot of tank journal posts. If anyone thinks a smaller tank (or any tank) is worthy, please send one of us a note.

The Grizz 05-01-2013 05:04 AM

I would like to nominate these 2 tanks

This exact post is what finally made me do this: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...682#post815682

Hopefully the nano forum is the right place for it.

Ya I know, I was just joking around. I think that is the only way any of my tanks would be nominated anyways

I think Tony has hit a bit of a roadblock finding the "any" key on his computer. I understand the nominee has submitted all the info. It's now a Tony thing..:)

Delphinus 06-05-2013 02:32 AM

Denny, get me 3 Mitras for free and I'll roll it out in the next 2 minutes.

No?

Oh well. Sorry. It will be soon, though.

reefwars 06-05-2013 02:44 AM

Well I would have but missed the two minute deadline lol Nice to see a small tank perhaps?
