Brentwood Mall Tanks ...

Has anyone seen the pair of 90g tanks lately, outside the London Drugs ?

Whoever is maintaining these tanks has a whole boat-load of work ahead of them

If I had a smart phone, I would have posted a pic of the red cyano-laden tanks :surprise:

You don't have a smartphone?????? :surprise:

Mine's a flip, and it has a camera
I just don't have a usage plan

OK, OK, I'll try to get some time and take my camera up there
Or maybe someone will see this and take a pic when they are there

Proteus 03-16-2013 03:40 PM

Lol. Honestly if it wasn't for Canreef I would not have a use for my phone. Lol

Mandosh 03-16-2013 03:43 PM

My phone has been broken for the last week. Honestly, I'm kind of enjoying not being reachable 24-7. It makes it a lot easier to "miss" emails and generally ignore people.

I saw those 2 tanks years ago , its for the dental clinic.

Fun fact, we have a Brentwood mall in Calgary, it also has a London drugs. I'm assuming this is near Vancouver?

Not really seeing what's so bad about them

Yup, just outside of Vancouver, in Burnaby

The red you are seeing is not coralline ... it's cyano

Rejine 04-07-2013 04:49 AM

Few years back those tank were well maintained and they used to have corals and other stuff now they just look disgusting (the rocks)
They have beautiful fish though
And I am still wondering until now on the 2nd pic do you guys know what's that fishs' name in the middle of the pic the green-ish one

Many dentist used to have SW tanks... the dental office who is there ( shares the wall where the tanks are) I believe has some relationship with the SW service vendor who keeps the tanks... they have a postcard business card their ( Oceanic something ) if someone wants to call them however there is a chance the stuff is some form of purple up.... I've seen it before and it clears up or someone comes and suck it up

i have crabs 04-07-2013 02:32 PM

Nothing a big uv wouldn't fix in a couple days but why have display tanks and have them look like crap

Corbin 04-07-2013 11:50 PM

those tanks have been like that for a long time, ive seen many sick/dying fish and horrible looking water quality in them since ive gone to brentwood the first time.
but theyre just fish so who cares right?

Madreefer 04-08-2013 12:11 AM

Is the point of this thread to try and find someone to volunteer to look after this tank? Boycott the mall? Have someone go talk to manegement? I don't see a reason to post pics of a tank that isn't yours just to bash it and pick it apart. Hopefully we can see a pic of this same tank in the future with you posting a feel good story about how you helped turn it around into a piece of art.

gregzz4 04-08-2013 12:13 AM

I started the thread as I couldn't believe the state of the tanks
It's a public area and the tanks look like crap
Plus the fish are too big for them

So, ya, I'm bashing

Madreefer 04-08-2013 12:30 AM

Well I'm sure they'd appreciate it if you shared some of your knowledge and spare time turning the tank around. Maybe if they charged people a fee to see this tank there would be reason to complain about it. You know it's not cheap to run a tank and maintain it. You stated your opinion and I'm stating mine. So mine is that this thread is not too cool. Do something constructive about it rather than just posting to bitch about someone else's tank.

gregzz4 04-08-2013 12:42 AM

I am doing something constructive Bill, I'm making their tanks a little more public and maybe someone who has more time than myself will point it out to them
When I'm at the mall, I don't have time to stand around waiting to talk to someone about something they should be taking care of themselves

+1

Madreefer 04-08-2013 12:57 AM

Ok good point. Hope it works out. Yea I don't wanna get in a pizzing match. I too don't understand why places put up a SW tank and don't have the means to maintain them. Stick to FW.
Peace out bro

gregzz4 04-08-2013 01:07 AM

Next time I'm shopping, I'll try to make some time to point it out to whoever pays for them ....

yellowworld 04-08-2013 08:12 AM

Speaking of tanks in need of help, has anyone seen the two tanks at Country Hills Toyota? I don't think i have seen that much hair algae in my life, i feel so badly for the residents of those tanks, there is no way they are living the good life right now :(

Seriak 04-08-2013 02:43 PM

I would say that in most of these situations, they get it in their head that a SW fish tank display would be great, but once the realize the cost of having someone else maintain it or the amount of work to maintain it themselves, they end up letting it become what you see. It could also have been a worker who actually was maintaining it, but they left the organization for whatever reason and now it's left with no one who has a clue on how to keep it going.
