Tunze Wavemaker?

Don't know if many of you have seen this yet on RC:

I'm getting sea sick just watching it....you think it would work on my 37G cube?

Had not seen it yet, but I'm with you, I did get seasick from watching it. Imagine how tht would look with a canopy on the aquarium though. It seems like it moves so much water that you would have to bring the water line down significantly.

I did see that. The only real concern I have is the periodicity of the wave and duration basically. But it's a cool idea, too bad you can't tune it a bit slower. I suppose if you had a REALLY long tank that it would be a little bit better.

Amazing. I wonder how overflows would handle it however.

LostMind 05-21-2004 06:11 PM

I believe Roger from Tunze said it can be tuned to produce smaller waves if you like.

that vid did make me feel a little queasy. I'm sure the fish feel it as well.

I was looking at those a few days ago, first time I've seen the movie though.Looks like it really puts out.The cost is about as much as a good skimmer. Its just a box that sucks in the water ,then blows it back out, kinda like the wave pool. For a large tank you can get an extention to put on the other end.

thats way cool, I wonder how much wave action I would get in my 36" tank

Awesome break through in flow technology eh... Finnally good back and forth circulation. I can only imagine a tank with that and two or four 6100's on it.

So can you still use a sump with this thing? Is your overflow in the center at the fulcrum where the water height doesn't change?

I think If you made your canopy come down far enough so that you couldn't see the the water level moving it would be great. I love the look of the fish bobbing around!

One wonders how long the seams on the aquarium could take the continuous alternating lateral stresses?

Jack 05-23-2004 08:20 PM

I think the tanks would be fine.. but some homemade stands would worry me.

ree-fready 05-24-2004 12:36 AM

the constant back and forth would have me worried about the seams and think it definetly would reduce the life of your silicone. (on the seams of your tank)
