The fish is really skittish still and it took me an hour to get these pictures. It has a Greg body with horizontal strips, a slightly lighter color. The pectoral fins are slightly pinkish and a the dorsal has some yellow right by its head.

I wanna say its a Scopas Tang & if it has a body like me, it's SEXY baby : lol:

Stay clear..... This Bear bits off limbs!!

I don't think it is a Scopas...body is too long.

CherylMcKay 01-21-2013 06:02 PM

I had found lots of pictures that kind of matched but I couldn't resolve the names. Some were labeled an a brown tang, some as two tone. Scopes helps.... It could be but I have also found some pictures that call a similar looking fish a brown sailfin... Just to many for mr to narrow down.

MMAX 01-21-2013 06:55 PM

Scopas and Brown tangs are the same although this fish doesn't look like one. The colorization looks like a type of yellow eye or Kole.

Try Striated Tang.

saltwatermaniac 01-21-2013 10:37 PM

I would definitely say it's a scopas tang.

It's a scopas.

That's what I thought as well. Looks just like mine.

Well, I wonder then if I should try and find a home for it. So far my Sailfin has been dominant. Having 2 in a 150 gallon may not be the best use of my space and my sailfin is much prettier. Decisions, decisions....

They stay fairly small so I wouldn't worry to much about it until there are sings of aggression. I find sailfins to be the less aggressive of the tang, IMO.

My Scopas looks nothing like this but I guess things in the animal kingdom don't always play by the rules.

I am almost positive it is not a Scopas...but what do I know.

My feelings exactly, body shape doesn't seem right.

The other tangs mentioned , striated or kole , are way different in colouring when I looked them up.

I will see if I have another picture in my camera that is better. If not I will be home in a week to try again.

Good to know. I will keep an eye on it. The description I read said they were Semi-aggressive, so I wasn't sure if it was too much for my tank.

I don't have another good picture in my camera, but with the searching, I have been doing based on the suggestions you all have given me, I believe it is a scopas tang. :-)
