CanadaCorals.com Introduction

Hey Guys,

We are a new sponsor to the forum and I just wanted to introduce myself and our company to the members of the forum.

We currently specialize in SPS frags but will begin offering LPS and Softies soon. We ship Canada wide and we feel our prices are very competitive.

We are not just another chop shop. We take the time to acclimate each new order and dip our corals so they are bug free. We then let our colonies colour-up before we frag them so that we can take good quality pictures so that you can see what your frag will look like when its all grown out. This is not our primary source of income so we can afford to do it right.

We use EcoTech Radion LED lights on all our coral beds. We know that we can get better coloration by using T5 or MH/VHO but so many people in the hobby have switched to LED's that we decided to use the same type of lighting. We just don't see the point in offering unrealistic coloration that our customers wont be able to maintain.

We use a good quality DSLR camera with macro lens and are often asked if we photoshop our images. The answer is yes and no. We use Photoshop to adjust white balance and exposure but will never add more color that is not there by increasing color or saturation. What you see is what you get!

We look forward to doing business with you guys and I am always available if you have any questions.

Yep.

I am not sure if its the LED's that are brining out the blue but its our best seller.

Oh good idea.

I feel like I'm going to need an SPS intervention here shortly...but after I get some of that wild fire digi.

Nice collections of yellows! The Carolinia looks great.

Proteus 01-17-2013 06:46 PM

What size are the frags

Samw 01-17-2013 07:32 PM

Welcome aboard. I see some really nice livestock. Glad to see a new online store to give Canadian reefers more selection. Best of luck.

carriej 01-17-2013 07:38 PM

Oh Goodie! A place closer to myself than most!

Not much into SPS but I will be keeping an eye out for those softies and LPS!

Frags are always the industry standard 1" or bigger. We try to make them bigger so that our customers feel like they got their moneys worth.

Currently we have discounts on UPS Next Day Air shipping. The more you spend, the cheaper it gets.

Orders over $400 are free shipping.

Our pricing is pretty aggressive when compared to the competition.

We are also not the type to mark-up prices on everything just so that we can afford to give out coupon codes to make it appear like you are getting a deal.

Our modo is to give our best price to everyone without needing to ask for discounts.

Proteus 01-17-2013 10:59 PM

I thought your moto was

" not just another chop shop"

Any way. Thanks for your time

DAVE 01-17-2013 11:09 PM

Welcome sir. Nice to see someone out of Quebec.

Good luck with sales...

The online fragging competition is heating up ;)

"There is no refund on shipping costs unless the carrier has failed to ship on time and has issued us a refund. Livestock death/damage due to carrier mishandling must be claimed through the carrier."

Just a quick question about that statement. Does your carrier i.e. UPS, know they are shipping a live animal? If so, will they refund the costs if it dies?

Just curious, because every shipping company I have talked with says...ship at your own risk..no refunds or replacement for dead livestock.

Curious...maybe rules are different in Quebec?

martinmcnally 01-17-2013 11:30 PM

Two tips for you shipping UPS:

Only deliver to UPS stores in the winter, otherwise the box sits on a cold truck all day out for delivery.

Use at least 2 heat packs. Almost all of the SPS i ordered lately arrived dieing and only a few recovered due to cold water, and that was from a supplier who in my opinion packs extremely well.

jtbadco 01-17-2013 11:42 PM

I know neither UPS or FedEx will guarantee any livestock shipped. As far as FedEx is concerned they don't even ship livestock, according to the people I spoke to on the phone. (even tho I have received tons of orders thru them)
The only way they will give you a refund is if the package does not arrive at all. They are not responsible for delays due to weather or anything else. I know that from personal experience.

Without an actual arrive alive guarantee from the vendor shipping in winter in Canada is very risky.

xenon 01-18-2013 01:58 PM

I love that you guys are offering advice about UPS shipping. Keep it coming! :)

UPS will be aware that we are shipping livestock. We love the idea of shipping to the closest UPS store for the winter months. This may not be an option for some customers living in rural areas.

We use thick styrofoam boxes with 40hr heat packs in the winter months. If the package arrives colder than usual, please let us know so we can improve. Feedback is always appreciated!

If the package is damaged by the carrier, please accept the package either way. Take some pictures of the package and send it to us.

We don't expect the customer to take any risks. That is what our arrive alive guarantee is for. :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

jtbadco 01-18-2013 02:24 PM

Was just checking your drygoods section for stuff we order frequently.

The prices on the first two items seem pretty steep compared to what we can get them for on the West Coast. (Epoxy and Coral Rx cost almost twice as much)

Just thought I'd mention it since we buy lots of both and obviously couldn't afford to purchase thru your store. I realize there may be higher costs where you're located which dictates higher prices.

DAVE 01-18-2013 02:28 PM

So will you issue a refund if the livestock comes in damaged due to the carrier?

If so, I would remove that line from your site. If not, I would double check that UPS will cover live stock losses.

Most dry goods are purchased from the same supplier. My prices reflect my costs. If ever I can get better prices, I would be more than happy to pass on those savings to my customers. :)

There are two sizes for the epoxy. The epoxy I am offering is the biggest 8" stick size.

The customer should not be responsible for anything that is out of their control. The only time we will refuse liability is if the customer is not home to receive the package.

I will give UPS a call and see what my options are. The shipping page will be updated once I get the details.

DAVE 01-18-2013 02:47 PM

Excellent.

Great quick responses and I love that you have the customer and the livestock as the number 1 priority.

Do you have any photos of your commercial setup?

Not yet.

We will be taking those pics very soon.

The guys @ EcoTech are asking for them also. Apparently we are getting exceptional SPS coloration with their Gen1 Radion lights and they want to feature us on their Facebook page.

DAVE 01-18-2013 05:45 PM

sweet, must mean you are doing something right.

Congrats.

We are currently running 80% intensity @ 20k preset with 0% green and 30% white. Our tanks are 20" tall and the lights are mounted 8" from the surface.

Whats the story on this?

Also, why would the customer have to ship back dead frags at there expense? Why wouldn't a photo suffice? Buy forcing the customer to send back a dead frag and giving a store credit for there shipping is just forcing a customer to buy more stock from you.

I can understand you don't want to be taken for, but you can easily identify if its your frags you shipped out in a photo.

Just something to think about.
