Fish dying!!!!
hey guys, i just got home and my anemone was getting eaten by the powerhead its a hereractis magnifica, it damged some of its tenticles and a little bit of its body, then i started having fish seizureing, not related or is it? need help asap
You have to give us more info
How big is your tank? What kind of Anemone? What kind of filtration system do you have going? Please give as much information as you can so we can help you. |
Water changes ASAP the nem most likely released toxins in the water

tank is 95 gallon 20 gallon sump, minimal stocked with fish, lots of coral tho, so it is the anemone?? i already took him out of the tank, no trace of amonia so it must be the stupid ass anemone?
Don't stress about qt just do a huge water change ASAP qt fish may stress them out more. A water change will refresh the water and take out most the toxins depending on how big a change you can do... Dilution is the solution if you have to do one after another if your not set up for a larger change at once
i dont have any water conditioner and i only had 20 gallons ready for saltwater, and my RO is slow :( should i go get some conditioner my brother has some or is 20 gallon enough
and should i get rid of the anemone? hes just sitting in a bucket right now or what should i do... grmbl it was a big anemone too
The nem may still survive whe you do a water change put it in a bucket with heater and some flow of sort (flow not necessary) and it may heal itself and be ok just royally hurting ATM. But meme are like too and can take a bit of abuse if it dies at least it doesn't die in your tank
In a case like this use tap if you have to water conditioner or not you main goal is save the fish algae issues can be fixed later
I would try to do 40g min 60g in three bouts better but 20g is a good start
so keep it out for like a day and see what happens should heal by then? and wont excrete any more poison??
That I can't answer but cause I don't know the answer but it may be ok
my nemos look super good, the 4th fish just died, i got a cole tang 2 nemos a gobby and shrimp that are still looking fine, blue tang nazo tang yellow tang and anthia died
Have to go to a call do your 20 g change ill check back when I'm done
I'm sure running lots of carbon will help too.
+1
As last light and x..... Said carbon is a good thing. I have never had this happen to me yet but have read so many cases if it happening. Truly sorry for your fish loss it always sucks but it could have been worse. I hope it pans out for you keep us posted on how it's going
sucks, i dont have any carbon around, no water conditioner only 20 gallons of saltwater ready, good news anemone is in a bucket with a heater no flow cause its a small bucket cant put a powerhead in there, clownfish and cole tang seem fine, corals seem fine, doing a water change tomorrow and putting the anemone by itself in a tank with some water from tank keeping him in there for a couple days and see what happens with him then most likely put him back in the tank
Things happen and it could have been a lot worse. Hope all turns out ok sorry for your losses
YOu have a magnifica in a 95 gallons tank? wow...those things get quickly to 2' in diameter...way too big even for a 150 gallons.
I would think it's the magnifica that released toxine. Carbon and water change ASAP. One of my friend lots most of her fish when an anemone got cought in a pump. |
I've had a ritteri anenome caught in a powerhead on at least 3 different occasions without any lose of life including the anenome. I guess I got lucky. Hopefully the fish that are left will be ok. I wonder if the fish that died ate some of the anenome? Good luck. Keep an eye on things and if the fish seem to be settling do smaller water changes.
well, 6 fish dead! Naso Tang, Blue Tang, Yellow Tang, Cole Tang, 2 Anthias, fish that survived, 2 clownfish, 1 scooter blenny, snails and hermits look to be fine, all corals look just as good, anemone is back in the tank now, took him out overnight lost all fish so i thought well im not loosing my 2 mouthed magnifica so i put it back in haha! clownfish and scooter dont seem to be affected by the poison, doing another water change tonight! well.... its super sad my favourite fish are gone, my cole tang lasted the longest, he survived until 4 am then he seizured and died :'(
