Sixline or McCosker's Flasher

I picked up a McCosker's yesterday (amongst other things), and it immediately went and hid for the night (expected). I noticed it out of it's cocoon about an hour ago, and very shortly afterwards it was being chased unforgivingly by my Sixline

I moved the McCosker's into another tank by itself for now to let it relax and let me think...

I'm leaning towards keeping the McCosker's and rehoming the Sixline... Had the Sixline for about a year without issues, but it might just not fit the compatibility list? (Our stocking goal is a wide variety of smaller species with the McCoskar's/Sixline sizing)

Which would you keep? the Sixline or McCosker's Flasher?

Proteus 01-10-2013 05:39 PM

I would keep the flasher. You will probably have problems with any new addition with the six line.

Six lines are evil!

Madreefer 01-10-2013 06:08 PM

Oh another thread on six lines misbehaving:surprise:

Same story everytime:lol:

You'll be able to find trapping tips if you use the search button. Keep the McCoskers and rid the evil from your tank.

subman 01-10-2013 06:10 PM

I have a trap you can borrow if you want Craig

craigwmiller 01-10-2013 06:11 PM

Sounds about right.

Trap being fabricated now :D

craigwmiller 01-10-2013 06:22 PM

Jason, you interested in a very well-behaved Sixline?? :p

waynemah 01-10-2013 08:02 PM

You trapped the sixline within 10 minutes? WOW! your the man!

Let me guess, you put the McKoskers in the trap lol :p

I got these fish on Dec 20, on a trans ship, they are in a 90 gallon QT, going in the Display tank this week end and the 2- 6 Line Wrasse are well behaved, they are great along great with each other

4 Dottyback Purple (Strawberry)
2 Clown Ocellaris (Percula) (S/M)

2 Goby Purple Fire (Flame Goby) (M/L)
1 Wrasse Cleaner
4 Wrasse Red Finned Fairy
2 Goby Scissortail
1 Angel Coral Beauty
2 Heniochus Black & White (S)
2 Fox Face single spot (S)
2 Tang Pacific Sailfin (M/L)
1 Tang Naso Lipstic (M)
1 Trigger Blue Jaw (Male)
2 Wrasse Six-Lined

craigwmiller 01-10-2013 08:25 PM

Heh, wayne, actually took about 2 minutes, maybe 90 seconds. this sixline is ALWAYS right front and center (unless a net is in someone's hand), and with maybe 10 mysis shrimps in the pop bottle, he was in there like a dirty (fish?)

LOL

craigwmiller 01-10-2013 08:38 PM

Yeah adding them all together I would have probably been okay -- but my sixline definitely thought he owned the tank. Now an empty pop bottle just owned him :D

Sixline has a new home :)

Lucky I had to tear the 270g apart to get my sixline out. He's now in the sump

And here's the replacement occupant -- very much on the more peaceful side :D

What kind of fish is this? very nice looking. where did you find him?

craigwmiller 01-11-2013 04:41 AM

Red Scooter Blenny

He was at Red Coral (where my sixline is now  ). Currently only 1" long, but will become the size of any scooter.

What are you feeding her and is she eating? The reason I ask is that these fish eat live pods. Over time, a year or so, a tank will populate itself with pods.
A newer tank like yours will not have enough pods to keep her alive.
If you see that she is not taking food it is best to return her the lfs and wait until your tank matures before you get another one.
She also should not have any other fish that compete for the same food

If you find it not eating, we can stick it in the frag tank for a while. I can barely see frags there are so many pods in there.

Sorry, different tank... I meant my frag tank

craigwmiller 01-22-2013 02:24 AM

Closing the loop on the tiny Red Scooter Blenny -- I have him eating mysis & pacifica plankton!

It's more hilarity than anything, as the pieces he picks up and decides to eat are about 25% the size of his body! And he picks them up and runs away when a bigger fish (especially the Kole) come near him... Looks like a tiny dog guarding a large bone from the rest of the pack!
