vehicle question

Anyone own a jeep? Jeep liberty to be specific.

I need to do my headlights as they are getting increasingly dim and I am looking for the brightest bulb for the stock lamps I can find. I'd like to get it locally vs. Online just for ease of access.

Any help is appreciated. It's an 06 liberty 3.7 V6

I installed HID lights on my truck and they are great but a cheaper and easier option I put on the wives van was the silverstar lights you can get them at Canadian tire.

Thanks Jason, would you say the Sylvania bulbs are quite bright? I'm looking at those or the ge nighthawks
It all comes down to performance and durability, as 90% of my driving is done in the dark.

I've used the silverstars in the past. Loved them its what I plan to upgrade too when our FJ or truck needs them.

As far as lighting is concerned when you don't want to do an expensive ballast/HID upgrade, your best bet is definitly GE Nighthawk, or Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlights. They are a lot better than stock bulbs for sure. You may also want to look at the whole headlight housing to make sure that its not yellowing or hazing. Some headlight lenses/housings tend to do this over time. Canadian tire also sells a polishing kit for these issues as well. I think its called headlight restore.

I have a jeep that and what I did was I got some over wattage lamps from a off road store they are awesome way way better then silver star or anything you can buy In store I will do some research tonight and tell you more of what brand and such they are twice the watts of regular bulbs

fishyfishster 01-07-2013 08:44 PM

Please don't put hid bulbs into headlights without projectors. It blinds everyone else on the road. Just get silver star halogen bulbs

Nano 01-07-2013 10:28 PM

lol no worries no plans on going HID, I am looking into the sylania or GE, which ever is going to be the best long term I will go with, also yes the lamps are a bit yellow but only externally, I have some headlamp polish, so I will be doing this as well

thanks guys and gals

now I'll be onto my next thread for the day :P

I used to run Silverstars but had to go back to regular lamps because everyone kept flashing their high beams at me when I would drive at night. Apparently there is such thing as being too bright. I tried lowering the focal points but it didn't matter, they were aimed correctly, just "too dang bright" apparently. :(

Don't you mean all the aftermarket HID that all these people put in with all the blue bulbs

I have HID's in my Porsche, but they come with the Porsche and it's OEM with the projector lens, and stock color temperature stock bulbs.

They don't realize the higher the color temperature (more blue) you get less distance

Proteus 01-07-2013 11:13 PM

Yes that's what I mean the after market ones. My new kenworth should have HID but there no where near the aftermarket. Maybe ill get some Roo lights

I replaced the headlights in the wife's car this summer with silverstars. Christmas eve the drivers side bulb burnt out already. Walmart was still open so I just grabbed an $8 bulb and installed it. Driving home on a dark highway the next night I noticed no further distance or brightness from my silverstar bulb compared to my new cheap Wamart bulb. I don't know if I should be disappointed with the silverstar bulb or be impressed with the cheap bulb.

Good luck with the headlight restore. Dad did that on the van great for about 2 months then 10x worse then before. We ended up buying brand new headlight assemblies for it.

So here is what I put in my jeep tj http://man-a-fre.com/pa/ipfx51.htm my headlights were brutal before put these in and there are the best!.... They are extremely bright but on low beam it has a cut off to keep the road bright in front of you but not blind any other drivers .

If the link doesn't work or you want to learn more hey are IPF X51 fatboys they are an offroad aftermarket bulb you won't find them in a store have to order them in ( I tried lots of bulbs before settling on this one never tried HID though)

yes please dont! to put hids in you need projectors to focus the the light and direct it onto the road. even with 10% tint i get blinded

Evilweevil 01-08-2013 02:04 PM

Also make sure you DO NOT TOUCH any bulb before or during install this will lead to premature failure ,and if you do you need to clean it with alcohol ? I believe not quite sure of the correct process I just know not to touch it

Almost $100 for a pair of bulbs? Holeee. Plus, if they're for offroad, would that not make them illegal for on road? As far as aftermarket HID installations, I'm pretty sure at least here in BC, if it's not done properly, that is with the correct lens/projector, you are subject to a fine if you get pulled over. Might be a slim chance of that, but still.... you're blinding folks, not safe & risking a possible head on... Slow down a bit at night & don't overdrive your OEM headlights, meaning don't drive any faster than you can see so you're able to stop in time.

paddyob 01-08-2013 05:56 PM

I just wash the covers and they get brighter. Winter driving is dirty.

Nano 02-05-2013 01:47 AM

hehe forgot about this

Went with ge nighthawk platinums and polished my reflectors and headlight lenses.. I'm getting flashed a lot now.. not just by girls but guys too! perhaps they're a bit too bright!? But man.. gotta say, changing headlights on a jeep is 100x faster then my old chev.
