I looked at the website again and all I see is that they open at noon on holidays.

Can somebody from Vancouver confirm that they open at 8:00 today?

Aquattro 12-26-2012 04:16 PM

They opened at 8, in store and updated site. although it's 9:25 now, so they've been open for a long time, already took all my money!

Yeah I just finalized my order great deals on t5 bulbs and more. It sucks they are so far away would have gotten salt but shipping made it undesirable. Now to Home Depot for lumber to build my hood for my lights this afternoon.

does anyone who has gone already know if they have any sale prices on their livestock? I could use some more snails.....

milano07 12-26-2012 05:30 PM

J&L is offering 30% off on livestock.

fireguy98 12-26-2012 05:52 PM

Was there this morning at 8:45 was thining about grabbing some corals but nothing all that great was left. They still had a good assortment of fish. The sale is great for dry goods. I was proud of myself I should great restraint and only left with some salt and a heater. :)

I was there too and didn't buy anything either, mainly because I noticed that the price on livestock was jacked up. For example, they usually sell Rics for $19.99 each, and the Boxing Day price was $37.00 and $29.00 depending on color of specimen. That totally turned me off and quickly left.

Yeah, it ****ed me off too. That's why I left without buying anything. I know how much stuff cost and don't like to be deceived by stores that claim to give you 30% off but also jack up their prices for that specific sale.

Xadieu 12-26-2012 07:17 PM

I bought equipments and new test kits, other online places can't beat J&L :D

fireguy98 12-26-2012 07:52 PM

Yup agreed dry goods and equipment they are great can't be beat. But you need to watch them on the livestock.

What I went for (fish and snails) were all normal priced minus 30%, but you guys are right! The coral all appeared to be much more expensive and nothing special was there.

They have been that price for a awhile, ($30), since shipment 3-4 months ago... When I started buying them they were 14.95, then they were 19.95 for the last two years, now they went way up. I'm talking about Florida rics, yuma were always more. Fair enough, they are worth what people will pay for them. Vote with your wallet.

I saw Florida Rics for $37 and the more dull ones for $29. They also named some pretty regular corals "Ultra" and and used it as an excuse to jack up their prices.

My complaint is not about the corals being expensive, but rather about the store increasing their prices for boxing day and then offering a deceiving 30% off to bring the price down to what they usually sell them for.

+1. Got almost everything I had on my shopping list and then some. Could have bought two 27" monitors for what I spent. Great deals.

I see J&L is extending their Boxing Day sale today. I was in yesterday, and did not see the crowds of the last couple years. I thought it was maybe my timing, but perhaps sales are indeed down from last year.

I ended up buying some supplies, but that was it. I didn't buy any corals or fish. I definitely bought a lot more last year.

I then drove over to King Ed's and bought some salt. I looked at their corals, but despite their 30% off, too, didn't buy any there.

After lunch, I dropped into Oceanic Corals in Aldergrove to see what Paul was doing for Boxing Day. And to my surprise, he had some very good deals and lots of great corals, all on sale (and not jacked up reg prices). I bought a few more supplies, and a bunch of SPS corals. For a small LFS, it was definitely rocking yesterday...
