i wish i was handy! Great work so far.

daplatapus 11-21-2012 01:25 AM

Looking good! I can't quite make it out but are your corners soldered on the galvanized pan? If it's not you can just run a bead of clear silicone up those corners if they're just spot welded.
It's been my experience (journeyman sheet metal worker) that any part of galvanized parts that no longer have galvanizing on them rust. It is just a coating on an iron sheet. I'd imagine it'll rust even more so around salt water. Any edges of the sheet, where it was cut to size, has exposed iron and will eventually rust. Just something you may want to consider. A coat of Tremclad would certainly help, but you'd have to pickle the galvanizing for the paint to stick. Easy as wiping the sheet down with vinegar.
Just a thought... I may be over thinking it :) I do that, lol.

This is coming along nicely! :pop2:

I thought the same things - nothing wrong with a little over thinking

Laurie, your build is looking great so far
Great idea with the drip pan

Not to add to your costs, but an acrylic/plexi pan would be much more hassle-free

Keep up the pics

Looking good Laurie,

Good job with the enclosure. Think I saw you at Home Depot a couple of weeks back, I was in too much of a hurry to come have a natter.

Keep up the good work,
Dunc

the corners are soldered and water tight, putting a thin coating of silicone over all the joints and raw edges. thanks for the input
thanks for all the nice comments from everyone. I"m taking my time on this whole project and of course it's going slower than I would like.

daplatapus 11-21-2012 01:25 PM

:thumb: Looks like you got 'er well in hand! I hear ya about it going slower than you like. My 210 build has been creeping along too. But you're doing it right, that's what counts and what you'll be thankful for when it's done. Besides... the build is a ton of the fun anyway :)

December 1/12 Finally got my sump in place and plumbed it in.
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...ver1/002-6.jpg
December 1/12 Got the water & salt mixing, the final herbie adjustments will be after I get the sand and rock settled in. Letting the emergency over flow take some water down it to get rid of any salt foam until the final adjustments are made, no doors yet!

duncangweller 12-02-2012 07:24 PM

Looks really good. I'll have to drop by and have a look. I'm jealous of the amount of room you have around your sump.....my stand is rammed, barely a spare square inch for anything else.

Some new pictures Dec.8/12 a few fish, coral frags and a picture of the bottle of a product called Colony that I used from start up, this stuff seems to work well although I was skeptical at first of what it says it will do. It's 1 week and my levels remain very good, the guys on the tv show "tanked" use it all the time for there set ups. So far so good.

Laurie,

Tank is looking awesome my friend. I was hoping you were home today when I dropped off your salt but alas, it was not meant to be. I will try to time it better next time. I'm sure Felicia would love to see your tanks as well.

Anthony

They seem to like the flow, just changed from a mag 950 to a Speedwave 1320 dc return pump, it's got 6 speeds and it very quite, I run it full bore so at 5' of head I'm getting approx. 900 GPH which is a pretty good turn over for my system.
