FS: Sea Hare (Red Deer area)
 

I have a Sea Hare who's services are no longer required. He is about 6 inches long and very healthy. He is ravenous and requires quite a bit of hair algae to eat. I would like him/her to go to a good home and all I ask is something in return. Maybe a piece of coral or something...

I am in need of one of those i can not get one anywheres,but i am all the way over in Nova Scotia.Would you ship it or would it not be worth it,i could EMT you the money so you can buy a new frag :)

I looked for quite a while to find this guy so I find it hard to believe that nobody wants him. I hate to see him starve!

You are doing the right thing offering her to the local reefing community.
She will starve unless you feed her.
Get some Wardley spirulina sinking tabs or something else that has spirulina as a top ingredient and drop a few tabs near where she is each day until a lucky reefer borrows her to get rid of their algae.

I tried some dry sheet algae but she won't eat it. The hermit crabs love it but she won't touch it. I'll see if I can find some tablets, maybe she'll eat those.

She's pretty cool having in the tank but I would definitely prefer to find her a home instead of feeding her in my tank.

I'd be interested in borrowing him for a bit, I don't have a ton, but I do have enough to keep him busy for a week probably.
Are your just donating him to "the cause" or do you have a price?

I am basically looking for a home for him where he's not going to starve. It would be nice if I got a small coral frag or something in trade but not required.

Well as I said, I'd love to take him for a bit to clean up some of my rockwork but he'd only be there a few days, he may be better off going to a larger tank with a larger algae problem :lol:

If you want to come and get him you are welcome. You are closer to Edmonton so you might be able to find a home easier than me.

I had the same dilema so set up 20 gallon to support all macro algae including hair.I use the water from water changes to feed this tank and moved starving CUC here often(lawn mower blenny,sea hare,etc)also makes a great pod factory:biggrin:

I am finally getting one and i plain to keep mine alive by feeding it the algae off my scrubber once it eats what i have in the tank :)

Looks like I found a home for the little guy.

Can you tell me what parameters you keep your tank at?
temp, PH, salinity and whatever other numbers you have?

As of 8:00 Am this morning it is sitting at:

Temp: 26.0°; it varies between 25.0° and 26.5° daily
pH: 8.21; varies between 8.15 and 8.35 daily
Salinity: 1.026; doesn't vary

When I got him I acclimated him over 3 hours and he accepted my tank with out any issues at all. I have heard that the key to keeping them alive is to acclimate them real slow. It worked for me.

Let me know how it goes with him.

When he's expanded he's probably 8" I imagine.
