Colonial hydroids

Got some in tank

Anyone know how to get rid of short of taking out the rock

Aquattro 10-23-2012 01:59 AM

Think I read that the Fluke Tabs killed them too..

DEAD_BY_DAWN 10-23-2012 02:02 AM

They do :)

reefwars 10-23-2012 02:03 AM

really?? even the tiny white ones??

huh i may have to look into that ive been going nuts trying to find a way to get rid of mine never thought about fluke tabs.

mine are not the typical brown ones but the tiny white ones .....

Aquattro 10-23-2012 02:08 AM

Problem is supply of tabs in the country is dwindling :)

Proteus 10-23-2012 02:39 AM

Ok. If I did manage to find a fluke tab is ther a ratio per gallon. Are other animals affected buy it. Corals shrimp?

Aquattro 10-23-2012 02:43 AM

One tab per 100g. Kills cleaner shrimp for sure. All SPS were fine, and all LPS that I have. Did not kill the 2 aptaisia in the tank.

coolhandgoose 10-23-2012 04:04 AM

Can you post a pic of it?

Delphinus 10-23-2012 04:19 AM

FWIW, the few times I had an outbreak, my dwarf angels usually took care of it. (potters angel or flame angels).

You can also try smothering them with epoxy and then removing the epoxy later.

Blowtorch worked pretty good for me on a couple rocks. Be careful if you try it, I read somewhere you can explode the rock if you heat it unevenly. Didn't happen to me but prudence dictates that I repeat the warning that was given to me :)

yeah thats the ones, way worse to get rid of:(

isnt it also called feather hydroids? i could be wrong on that though ;)

any tips mindy??

reefwars 10-24-2012 06:22 AM

im estimating i have anywhere from 100-300 and my tank is riddled with them......going ulns isnt an option for me ,nor is to stop feeding or broadcast feeding or killing my rock.

some people on reef central report some small success with peps, but over all seems the cure is to go ultra low nutrient system....fml lol

reefwars 10-24-2012 06:23 AM

after doing some reading i dont think fluke tabs will kill these kind of hydroids:(

MMAX 10-24-2012 11:39 AM

I had 2 or 3 different kinds before I treated my tank with fluke tabs last week. Killed them all.

Proteus 10-24-2012 03:31 PM

If anyone has one to sell please let me know

Coasting 10-24-2012 05:04 PM

Is there a particular kind of "fluke tab" or brand I guess? I wouldn't mind trying this out.
Any liquid versions that work? Will anything that kills flukes help rid these stupid things or is it just the tabs?
