Anyone else can't stand UPS
UHG so sick of UPS, delayed shipping. Cost is stupid and on top if it they just charged me $97 brokerage on a $200 item. Wish I could boycott them. And trying to discuss why they charged 70 ish broker fee plus tax is like segueing with this wall beside me
|
There was a discussion on here earlier about how you can do the customs paperwork yourself to avoid their outrageous charges. Here is the link from that thread http://www.thegatesofdawn.ca/wordpre...rokerage-fees/ I generally just ask the sender nicely if they would please use USPS instead. Or I have them send the package to some friends in the USA and then have those friends mail it to me with USPS.

I will only deal with US companies that ship USPS as well. Even in Canada when items are shipped UPS to me they are the only company I have ever dealt with that continually loses my packages. The last one they lost they told me they dropped it off with a "neighbor", the address they gave me was 7 blocks away and the package wasn't there. Luckily it was from Costco and they had a new item send out the next day for me.

Literally worst company I've ever dealt with fr anything. Seems like they're fun by monkeys.
They have no contact with drivers. They kept me waiting all day saying the package was enroute. Then called me at 9:10pm to tell me it was forgot at the facility. And I finally bitched so much that they're issuing a refund. And guess how they issue refunds...... "Cheque in the mail" I've started a twitter account with the mission of making everyone aware of their crap. To get the fastest response with issues just include @UPS in your tweets |
I would rather not buy something if the only option is UPS. Yes, by far the worst company for shipping. I hate Purolator as well.
I really like Fedex. Haven't had any problems (knock on wood) with Fedex and corals being shipped. The other two, nothing but problems. Even when I put a big sign on my door and leave the door partially open, they'll mess up. It's like they only hire incompetents there for delivery to my neighbourhood. Canada Post has also been good for packages (non-live). So stay away from Purolator and UPS. USPS, Fedex & Canada Post are reliable. |
Don't even get me started still waiting for them to deal with a claim I'm out 200 bucks right now

The brokerage fees are such a scam. My order was $220 and they charged me $98 in brokerage fees.
On a side note. Anyone use DHL lately? I use them for my Iherb orders. All I can say is WOW. Awesome service!! |
UPS has charged outrageous brokerage fees for at least the last 5 years. I'll only buy from the States if it can be shipped via USPS ($5 flat brokerage fee).
|
The problem with USPS is that it gets handed to Canada Post at the border. Complain as you wish about UPS, but after dealing with them daily for over a decade, I can tell you that they are worse. Far worse. In fact, they are a strong contender for the worst company in Canada, period.
Shipping USPS also means no tracking or insurance so there is an additional (potential) risk factor there. |
Usually Poor Service instead of United Parcel Service
|
In my experience UPS only considers it their responsibility to pick up the package, not to ensure it's delivered. I can't believe they think leaving packages on a step in the middle of the day or dropping it in the backyard is acceptable. I go out of my way to avoid using them.
I have generally had good experiences with Canada Post. |
The major problem is that is UPS ground, is where they charge you extra with brokerage fees, they have 2 additional shipping methods, express saver, expedited, where brokerage is included, if I have no choice then I will use express saver
|
Speaking of Canada post. My wife ordered some samples in Sept 2005 from Ontario for our wedding. She never received them. Well,I get a package in July of this year(2012). I was like wtf is this(box was beat up and looked old. I look on the date and it says sept 2005. I cannot believe they lost her package for 7 friggin years! LMAO

The UPS driver who does the route that my office is on is excellent. Both the Purolator and FedEx drivers on the route have messed up with my packages, but the UPS driver never has (even when one wasn't addressed correctly, he was able to figure it out). I no longer purchase anything from the US that will be sent UPS, except in very rare circumstances for items where I'm saving an extraordinary amount of money.

don't use UPS
Same here, brokeage is a killer even if the item is just $50 or so.... even Fedex charges it but not as much. However, if you are corporate, then it would be ok as you probably have a broker in place.
So, indeed normal US post is the cheapest by far.... msjboy |
I have dealt with UPS lots lately because of our dollars value. Anyway, it is not hard at all to avoid brokerage fee. I actually even sign up an account with them so they have my credit card on file. Every shipment, once i got the confirmation number, I call UPS and told them i will do my own clearance. 80% of the time, I don't have to do anything really because it is too much hassle for them to fax me the invoice and shipment detail so i can then send to canada custom, they just do it for me (Without charge) and then pay whatever duty fee using my credit card. :-)
Try it and you will see how easy it is |

All shipping companies make mistakes, especially when you are dealing with millions of pieces per day (Fed Ex processes close to 4 million pcs through Memphis each night, UPS and DHL aren't far behind in numbers) its the ones that are willing to make it right that I will use. Colin |
I managed to get UPS to redirect the package to my broker to whom I have an account with. So hopefully it actually makes it there I called on fri to do it and called again today to verify and the said the request was in the system then cancelled so i had to re'request it.The company is nothing more than a scam. I use Summit brokers. They are really good. Plus it you live close to the border you can ship right to there broker warehouse and pick it up there so your not actually shipping internationally and they have it processed by the time you pick it up
