Show me the craziest SPS you've ever seen!
I'm on a hunt (albeit a very slow one) for incredible SPS. I'm trying to track down SPS that are just totally out there and completely different (like the Reef Raft Avenger. I don't care if it's a named coral or not, just needs to be out of the ordinary. And I don't consider red planet out of the ordinary... Ever since my neighbor's dog got one I've considered them common (but still very pretty).
And better yet, if you own said coral, PM me and let's talk. But for now, let's have a show and tell of the most insane SPS you've ever seen! |
My northern delight is pretty original. Green pigment streaks through it as well.

I am into multi-color SPS. The following picture was from an online Canadian store. It was in one of their shipments a while ago. I haven't seen it again. Still searching for one that is close to that color(s).

I hate to pop bubbles but the colour isnt that accurate on that picture. Also a.abrotanoides are especially known to be incredibly hard to keep long term. They do come in regularly in maricultured shipments though.
|
I got that piece from Burc and it was not even close to that colour.
It is all green now, and I still have it. ...that was my last transaction with him |

When I order corals from an online store, I don't usually have high hope of WYSIWYG due to various reasons. |

This is also a reef raft piece. One day.......

The question is whether it will hold its colour.
I have 14 of those frags, will see what they look like when I get home. |

These are wild pieces that haven't been around too long, so I am always a bit skeptical. Too me its worth the risk. There stuff is too amazing not to try :) |
Here's one of my faves from the past

I'm pretty sure.....ask Jay though. |

I think Darryl is right https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26422390/Pink%20Floyd.jpg This for sure is the Pink Floyd and the polyps actually look PINK. (much lighter yellow as well)...tough to say though...it could be the same coral just a white balance issue (the contrast seems really dark on it). |
Ya, to me that looks like the same coral just lighter either from white balance or higher light. Either way, it's the same species from what I can tell.
I've actually been sitting all weekend comparing these reef raft pics with some of the pics of the frags that are available throught he reef raft group order. Some of them look SO close to the ReefRaftUSA corals, but the pictures we were sent suck a bit so it's a bit tough to tell. |
I'll put it this way...all the pics (even rrusa) are taken by Jay in canada. If they were the same...he would have gave you the same pic and told you the name. At least that only makes sense to me.
|
it is not, they have gotten in about 4 of these colonies the last 4-5 months

i gotta consider finding some old pics and taking some new ones Quote:

Either way it's still a nice coral. Looks the same to me really (in fact I think the knock off might look better with the deeper colours) and I'm not too concerned with lineage. Just care if it looks nice! Reefer and Hydrologist: I was hoping you guys would just into this thread. I think the two of you have my two favourite SPS tanks in Canada. More pics? |

Overall, if you have Radiums and no GOOD (cost, evaporation, etc) reason to switch them out, I'd stick with them. |

...Did anyone say ULTRA LORD ACANS? |
Not sure what you are after by means of crazy, but when I had my 500 gal my red Capricornus reached a size of 29" across and then i had to continuously trim it back, And I planted a green one in the middle and it started growing colored layers as I placed another red piece in the center of the green. Looked pretty neat until I had a mishap which cost me all if my SPS

By crazy, I'm looking for the most unusual, intensely coloured, unique corals |
agreed.....my final decision on the Illumina 260 I am running will be in by xmas I suspect...I recently added 3 UV modules, and am going to get either 2 more UV or 2 blue...........I have some nice SPS now and have my alk under control with a doser.....time will tell

I've got my alk a bit low too, so I'm trying to bump that a bit, but that still won't bring back the lost colors, just a bit of the pop. |
Agree with Brad. Halides are still the bomb, but LEDs offer way more positives for that tiny bit of personal preference of halides
|
Let's get back on topic here fellas...
MORE EYE CANDY NEEDED! |
