I assume it comes with the fruit loops.... ;)

reefwars 09-04-2012 03:38 AM

i dont want to be that guy buts its actually a darth maul, prob a morph you can tell by the red rim.

true campfires have yellow/dark orange on them, and the rings are continuous not in botches, heres a pic from a previous member who had actual campfires.

sorry but just thought that should be noted as im actually on the hunt for campfires.

reefwars 09-04-2012 03:41 AM

not too mention thats clearly a zoa and not a paly

marc3lo19 09-05-2012 02:29 AM

I bought it of zoanthids.com as a campfire palythoa; I always under the impression this is what campfires looked like

and its not a zoa its a paly its just smaller because it was recently fragged + look at the mouth

paddyob 09-05-2012 02:58 AM

Looks like a Paly to me.

Take it easy on him Denny.

I'm with Denny on both accounts here, its a very nice polyp but certainly not a true "Campfire". Probably zoanthus gigantus to boot, its a large misconception that many of the polyps we collect are "Palys" when infact almost all are zoanthus (Captain Americas, Purple Death, Nuc Greens are a few exceptions though).

Size has nothing to do with it .

i was taking it easy, def not a paly.

a close up pic of it open and a close up pic of it closed will get you the answer you need:P

zoanthids.com like alot of other sites are full of it , they carry fakes and name stuff daily.

not saying you didnt buy it as a campfire , because that happens all the time.

even if the buyer wants to believe this is a campfire paly then so what its not a big deal its in the eyes of the beholder anyways

i also think its a nice zoo and its prob worth the penny asked im just saying its not the TRUE PALY im looking for , im assuming since i mentioned in another thread earlier that day about rare zoanthids
that i was looking for campfires this thread even got started seems odd not twenty mins or so after me mentoning it , this ad was placed??

dc4 09-05-2012 05:12 AM

depends , there are 2 types one incredibly hard to keep, they have tiny heads and grow slow the other is much much larger heads and is much hardier:)

reefwars 09-05-2012 05:21 PM

the one in your pic is the smaller ones:P

reefwars 09-05-2012 05:24 PM

here are the hardier deepwaters

lol i may know someone out your way he tends to carry some of these gorgeous variations:P

i gotta say these are very nice , they grow fast and loveeee the light:P

mine has probably tripled in a couple months, the pic is an older pic:)

reefwars 09-05-2012 08:22 PM

back to the campfire though , is it possible to get a close up or macro pic??

marc3lo19 09-05-2012 08:37 PM

i'll try and take one

re fruit loops hardier kind: I have those ones as well for sale

reefwars 09-05-2012 08:57 PM

youll notice in the picture of the true campfire paly i posted it has a green disk around the mouth , its a bright green similiar to the car's . this is something all campfires have.

there are very few pictures of true campfires but they are out there none the less you have to go through alot of the fakes and random morphs to find them .

you wont find them on for sale on online sites , this is a select collectors piece and never if ever come up for sale even in the states:(

they are incredibly rare and fetch a high pricetag, they def do not get seen or heard of very often.

ive only ever seen one in person once:(

would kill to have one....sopranos too:(

reefwars 09-05-2012 08:58 PM

here is the first pic i googled , true campfire

http://areefcreation.com/catalog/ima...0Campfires.jpg

reefwars 09-05-2012 09:00 PM

you can clearly see the spots are continuos and not blotchy and there the green around the mouth, its not a dull green but a vivid green.

under actinics this palys is in a league of its own:P

for the record...i have palys smaller than zoas so size is not what makes a paly:P

reefwars 09-05-2012 09:14 PM

this is the one from coaralpedia

Its basically a darth maul morph that they have given a name, they started appearing about 6-8 months ago.

reefwars 09-07-2012 04:41 AM

there are so many maul morphs its not even funny lol especially over the past few years since theyve become known and passed around more.

dc4 09-07-2012 07:22 AM
