Peeling Garlic Fast

Here's a pictorial I made for anyone needing to peel massive amounts of garlic:

Hope that helps some of you guys next time you need to make Garlic Paste for a potluck, ha!

I didn't know that. Thank you.

I've been doing this for a couple of years now, works great.

Want to get the stink of garlic off your fingers? Wet and wipe then along your stainless steel sink or any stainless steel. No soap needed!

This is true, however, I don't because it usually comes with packaging that isn't biodegradable (styro, plastic film, usually both) and that's a big deal to me. The other thing is you usually don't want to peel garlic until you're just about to use it; the compound that gives garlic its kick (allicin) tends to break down quickly once exposed to oxygen.

Agreed. Also garlic and ginger should be purchased as organically grown if possible as the taste is much better.

i got this guy from safeway i believe, add one clove turn 2-3 times ,the inside is minced garlic and the peeling stays outside

burgerchow 07-23-2012 04:33 AM

Well, like the old saying goes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
A garlic a day keeps everybody away. Lol

I have silicone mats that I got to make gaskets. I take a piece, place the garlic cloves on it, fold it over and rub back and forth. BAM! 5 seconds and you're done. Great for just doing a couple cloves, but this method above is pretty snazzy. Just tried it. Works like a charm.

place garlic clove on counter or cutting board or your hard surface of choice. Smash the puppy with your fist. peel.

I use to do this, but now I live in an apartment and the person below me is a real stiff about loud banging noises. That + wood floors + stinky hands = sad times in frown town.

Try two metal bowls; your neighbour will love you.
