45G Skimmerless & Sumpless tank
My new tank has been set up for about 6 months now and I thought it was time to share a couple of shots of it. Keep in mind that this tank is still a work in progress. The plastic cup that can be seen right next to the Vortech is where I keep the Banggai Fry. They have been doign really well there and I have not lost any so far.
I almost forget to mention that water changes are done every 2 months and I don't dose anything. There is 7 fish that get feed 2 to 3 times a day a mixture of frozen food, pellets and cyclopeeze. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...5/IMG_4246.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...5/IMG_4247.jpg |
Tank looks amazing Daniel
Folks, I've seen this one in person ( plus his last one ) Truly amazing how clean it is without a skimmer, and with all his feeding too  |
Beautiful tank!!!
|
Next time I come meet you in d/t Van, I will have to find parking and come up for a looksee at this gorgeous system. Great work Daniel.
|
It's looking beautiful. What is that traffic cone coloured coral just above the red Acan colony? What sand did you use?
|
Wow...you have the touch.
|
Like it. Want to know more.
What lighting are you using? How much water do you change every two months? |
Very well done, love that acan garden.

You are very welcome to stop by anytime. I would be honored to have you over to check the system out in person and perhaps get some feedback on how to make it look even better. Quote:

I change about 15% of the water every 2 to 3 months and I use tap water. There is no dosing of any type and there is no carbon or any of that stuff either. I have a Tail Spot Blenny, Royal Gramma, Clown fish, 2 Banggai Cardinals, Purple Firefish and Yellow Clown Goby that get fed about 2 to 3 times a day. Let me know if you have any other questions. Here are a couple of pics of the Elegance coral that I used to have up until few days ago. It was in my set up for over a year and it quadruple in size during this time. I was very sad to let him go but it just outgrew my tank  However, not all is bad, I was able to place it in a much bigger system (Anthony's) and I am sure that he will take great care of this beautiful coral. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/01-2.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/00.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/02-2.jpg |
The poor neon orange scoly had a 9" Squamosa fall on it overnight and rub against it for hours till I saw what happened and rescued it. I'm sure Daniel will be able to resus it from its "when giant clam attack" episode.

Looking very nice Daniel, I like the acan garden. I gotta stop by one of these days and see it in person!!

Hey Daniel, your tank is the best nano tank I have ever seen in person, and I know how hard you work on this tank and maintain it.

It seems that the full tank shots that I posted at the beginning of this thread are not working anymore. I can't fix this problem myself because we are not allowed to edit threads anymore. I am now forced to post these pics in the second page of my thread instead of having them in the very first post.

Amazing that you can keep your tank cleaner and healthier than the tank I have seen that runs with skimmer, and you do water change only every 2 months. Wow ... I wish I could do that too.
|
Wow this tank looks amazing! I love your rock flower anemone collection!

Thanks, Rock Flower Anemones are my favorite anemones. They are beautiful, rarely wander around the tank and come in many different colors. Here is the latest addition. It was picked up today and with this one I know have 14 Rock flower Anemones  http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...5/0a762877.jpg |

Amazing. What filtration is there? Looks like a shallow (very clean) sand bed. How often do you clean the glass?
|
Vancouver, especially after the upgraded water treatment system put in place for the Olympics, has some of the highest quality tap water in the world. I haven't had my RODI unit in place for about 3 years. So, as you can see from Daniel's system, it is possible to use tap around here and keep it KISS. Again, great job on this nano my friend.

I was at Bayside today and they said one of their Rock Flower Anemones was going to Vancouver. Another addition of yours perhaps?
How did the baby Rock Flower Anemones you had make out? |

Any latest news on your fabulous tank???
More pics!! |
what keeps your water clean? do you dose?
|
Hey guys,
Tank is still going very strong. Corals and fish are thriving and looking pretty good. Now, you asked how I keep the water so clear. To be completely honest, I don't do anything special and I don't dose anything. All I do is feed the fish pellets and frozen food once or twice a day and perform water changes every few months. I'll try to take some new shots when I get some free time. |
Great tank
Please keep us updated
Your tank is an inspiration to alot of us I personally am really close to starting my first tank in a long while, and will definitely be doing it sumpless and skimmerless and SLOW!! May be pming you regularily soon!! |
That acan garden is something ive GOT to have!!
They dont fight amongst themselves? Are they on a low lying rock? |

Here are a few more shots of this set up. This is not exactly how the tank looks right now (Acan garden, Rics and Duncan are gone). I'll take a recent shot in the next few days. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/2-20.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps36c48178.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/x1-3.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/x2-2.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/8-8.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/98-3.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/94.jpg http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m265/yvr_75/93.jpg |
what happened to that acan garden?
you said its gone? |
k sorry to sound so green.. but how can you run no sump and no skimmer, no dosing and a fair amount of bioload on ur system? Do you use any filtration? and it doesnt look like you have much rock or sand either
|
What is your lighting schedule for this tank?
I would be curious what the levels of Alk, Cal and Mag are in your tap water |
I am as curious as zero is on this matter, because I would love to run a system without a skimmer, sump, or anything. Please tell us your ways. hahaa
I would like to know what you use for circulation, gph, and if/what is used for filtering the water? please and thank you. |
