New AI Sol Setup!!

Hey guys, well i thought of the bars they sell to mount these ai, did not like them since they make the ai's sit too close to the water, then i looked at the hanging kit, 45$ to hang 1 ai sol? what a waist of money plus it would be ugly, since i have a bowfront making a canopy isnt an easy option for me, plus im cheap ;) id rather spend money on corals then wood for a hood, so then i decided to make a trip to home depot, since this is in my living room in an appt i wanted it to look good, so 1$ of aircraft cable, 1$ worth of little brackets and a 19$ shelf i got my AI Sol Setup let me know what you guys think, im going to be tiding up the wires a bit kinda ugly right now, i had 2 150 watt metal halid with 2 actinics now i have 2 ai sols im running 30% right now all accross should i do more? or? and when and how much should i bump them up? and too how much? thanks for your advice :)

Great idea.

Yea your starting them out at a good intensity. Bump them up by 5% a week. It's been 10 months for mine now and i'm up to 100% now. I tried to rush it at one point and had some problems and it set my corals back a couple of months for them to recover.

This may interest you. I just switched my optics around and trying it out for myself.

Curious how you mounted the shelf to the wall, I dont see any 'L' brackets. I was thinking of doing this myself but don't want the ugly L brackets to show as the tank is in my living room.

It looks like shelves with the hidden brackets. I got mine at Ikea. The have a post system you screw into the studs and then you slip the shelf over them. The actually hold quite a bit of weight.

Awesome idea. Looks really good.

You should use a couple of black zap straps and centre the cables running down from the lights, give it a really sharp cleaned up look.

yah i realized the angle after i drilled the holes in the shelf lol, forgot about the offset brackets haha :(
