AI Vega Update: Configurable LED choices

Looks like some more information from AI today on the Vega. It seems you will be able to order completely configurable LED options in their PowerPuck design.

Check out the video here: http://youtu.be/Y7fBPuMT7NE

There will be two AI Vega models:

Standard: cool white, royal blue, and blue
Color: cool white, royal blue, blue, green, and deep red

Available in Black or White case and shipping this summer

Customized PowerPucks purchased separately.

cool! I wish they would do an upgrade like this for the sol, but I imagine you would have to update the drivers as well? still a neat feature though

subman 06-05-2012 04:32 PM

Do you have an eta Martin?

martinmcnally 06-05-2012 04:38 PM

No ETA yet but I feel like its getting close. I'm gonna guess that these PowerPucks have to be ordered separately. It would be very hard to stock more than a few combinations. It will be interesting to see how they work this.

sphelps 06-05-2012 04:48 PM

So I wonder how it works with control then, if you mix and match colors will you have independent control of each color or will it depend what string it's on. Hopefully you can also save some money and order a unit with the pucks you want originally rather than replacing them after the fact.
Very curious how this will work, keep us updated.

martinmcnally 06-05-2012 06:37 PM

Given 9 color choices and 4 spots per puck that's 6561 different possible combinations per puck. Multiply that by 4 pucks and you get 26,244 different setup possibilities for Vega. Pretty sure that would have to be made to order. haha.

I am guessing they are either going to go direct to retailers and get rid of the distribution channels or the pucks will be an add on.

martinmcnally 06-05-2012 06:47 PM

Ok I should have read the whole thing.

I see you've been taking pre-orders. Any idea on a price for the Vega Color? I will be buying 2.

I believe they will be both the same price at $499.

Seriak 06-06-2012 01:20 AM

Thats giving fisher price a bad name!

martinmcnally 06-06-2012 11:36 PM

I think the new controller is integrated, they are wireless so I would assume you just update from a PC. I think this is how it works. Trying to get info from them is like trying to get water from a stone.

Seriak 06-07-2012 02:57 AM

At 499 a pop with a built in controller. I may have to buy a couple.

martinmcnally 06-26-2012 08:00 PM

So I am a little late as we were closed last week haha you may have already seen it but the new Vega has officially been announced as having 4 SKUs. Distributors are now kicking in and taking Pre-Oreders so you know its getting close. We are also taking Pre-Oreders on our website to be in that first batch.

Its great news to hear that it will be fully wireless accessible and controllable :)

The AI Vega is now officially confirmed for release in August!

Bblinks 07-02-2012 09:34 PM

Martin, I want to see what is gonna cost me for upgrades to all 10 of my sols. Can you find out more details about it for me please.

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean upgrade them? Upgrade to the latest SOL model or upgrade to Vega?

Bblinks 07-02-2012 10:42 PM

Sol upgrades, you are suppose to be able to get upgrade to make your sol into wireless communication to other modules with a new pc board and led pucks just like the vegas, basically customize color schemes of the leds and be able to convert into a vega. I think its gonna be a 200-250 dollar upgrade as per reef builders.

martinmcnally 07-02-2012 10:46 PM

You can definitely upgrade them to wireless by adding this little module:

http://www.aquaillumination.com/acce.../wireless.html

We have them on order, should be shipping in August. I haven't heard anything about upgrading the Sol pucks yet but if you have a link forward it on.

Bblinks 07-02-2012 10:50 PM

check out the bottom of this article.

martinmcnally 07-02-2012 10:53 PM

Cool! I'm gonna guess the will delay that until the Vega is out the door. That's most likely why we haven't heard anything about it so far.

I have them on order, should be here this week I hope. They can be really slow at the spare parts unfortunately. I will let you know as soon as they are in.

Bblinks 07-02-2012 11:19 PM

Oh crap, I thought you had them in stock. I have one module thats out... okay, quickest you can. Thanks.

Madreefer 07-03-2012 12:29 AM

Hey I have 4 Sol Superblues at the moment and looking to add 2 of those Vega units to my system. There's rumor that the Vega's can be ordered to the consumers liking. I'm looking to add some reds to my lighting. There's only 1 red on the Vega and would like more added. Is it possible that you can order them with more reds installed? Also is it necessary to pre-order? And how does one go about sending you a deposit?

You can pre-order from our website right now.

http://www.modularled.ca/ai-vega/

Unfortunately you cannot order them pre-customised you can only choose to add custom modules after. The custom LED pucks are ordered directly with AI.

Madreefer 07-03-2012 01:45 AM

Hmmm I like to buy from my own province but nobody seems to be stepping up here and it seems that you have members constantly praising you. Busy with work for the next couple of weeks but i'll send you my deposit than. Hopefully free shipping to BC

martinmcnally 07-03-2012 01:52 AM

Yup, free shipping Canada wide.

pat18 07-04-2012 05:24 AM

Not sure if anyone posted this question before or not, but is it known if the Vega will be controllable through a computer like the radion, or do you need a separate controller like the Sol?
