stressed stuff

I added my sump so about 17 g of water plus changing 5 g of water. My salinity was a bit crazy and and. Had a blade rust in the sump the first 2 days. I lost a cleaner shrimp and all my pulsating xenia . On top of that about 15 gals was chlorinated water but I change that by the next morning. My guess is the cholrine and the crazy salinity change.
Looking for confirmation?

It would deffinately be from the chlorinated water for sure, did you not use any water conditioner? Sounds like you are in need of an RO.

Proteus 04-09-2012 01:59 AM

Inverts are pretty sensitive to salinaty swings
And chlorine is never good. Be sure to "prime" your water

reefwars 04-09-2012 02:03 AM

why do you guess chlorine??

troni 04-09-2012 02:07 AM

It took me a full day for a full bucket of ro water and I forgot to prime my tap water.

Proteus 04-09-2012 02:09 AM

I didn't use prime for a long time. Just leave your bucket out with a bubbler in it for two days. Should be good

subman 04-09-2012 02:11 AM

Im surprised thats all you lost actually. I could actually for see a small cycle coming as well the chlorine may have killed lots of bacteria

reefwars 04-09-2012 02:16 AM

i dont use prime or an ro unit........ever

in the past sure, but not on the tank i have now lol .......according the "the rules of reefing" i should prob be having some sort of issue by now, once i figure out what im gonna do for a new tank ill get a ro running:P

Proteus 04-09-2012 02:36 AM

I just keep it on hand but in reality the bottle could be filled with water itself and I wouldn't know

troni 04-09-2012 02:37 AM

Yeah my clowns are acting funny but perking up, no cycle checked for that. My 2 zoa frags haven't opened up yet my kenya tree is moving and my torch is starting to come out and bit.
Btw titus that torch did well under t8 about 8 to 10 inches under water.
I have prime just didn't use it.

subman 04-09-2012 02:43 AM

I believe Edmonton has Chloromine in the water and it won't dissipate out like chlorine

*chloromine as well as chlorine
