Plumbing Newbie

I'm not sure where to start, I just got a 46gal. bow front bought form here I'm not sure how to go about putting the plumbing together -_-; should I go to home depot? any other pvc stores cheaper place to go? what to use to seal? not really sure what I need

Not sure what you mean by 'what to use to seal'. Rona, Home Depot, Corix, Ocean and Bulk all sell cement.
Home depot/Rona are fine for small quantities of elbows/tees etc.
Bulkreef Supply online or Corix for schedule 80 unions, Gate Valves and True Union Ball Valves. Also Ocean Aquatics or J&L Aquatics for Gate Valves.
Also, Rona has schedule 40 pipe, Home Depot only has 200 which is thinner but stupidly the same price.
Most of these places sell Bulkheads.
Make sure you spend the extra money and use Sch80 Unions as they have a larger ID.

Thank you for these places recommended! I'll just try and wing it. XD I'm not sure how to use SCH80

Schedule 80 is no different from schedule 40 in terms of putting it together. It just has thicker walls from what I understand. You really don't need Schedule 80 for our low pressure systems.

My sch80 recommendation was specifically for the larger ID unions

What does the plumbing look like on the inside of the overflow? Is is just draining through the bulkhead?

Might use an external Durso

ohh no.. I have to take this apart?? could I just drill the top?

Parker 05-02-2012 09:33 PM

I'm not an expert by any means, but I would think just drilling the top of the elbow would cause a leak.

Cliff 05-02-2012 10:30 PM

You could do a type of duriso standpipe with that set-up. The part with the air hole would have to be higher than the tank to prevent water from coming out of it

Your going to want to replace that 90 with a T. Put a cap in the top of the T with an air hole drilled. I you want to get fancy you can run a piece of air line with a valve out of the air hole.

What your going to have to make is an external durso standpipe. If you google it you should be able to find diagrams.
