Just a quick note, we just ordered an RO unit from aquasafe on ebay and yes they did have the filters for sale as well.If i remember correctly they were not a bad price. Sorry to butt into your discussion  Tina

uh yeah... i just looked at mine and it is AquaFX as well...
havent rally looked around a lot yet, but at $50US sounds like the best deal so far... mason, a TDS meter can help you determine when its time to change membranes, having said that i havent used mine yet! but ive read the membranes usually need to be replaced within 2 years. nascam, i never contacted aquasafe, cuz i never heard of them until now! steve, is there a certain color membrane i should be looking for? veng, wateranywhere... pricing is similar to aquafx... is it in the US as well? just curious, what filter do you guys replace most often? i find that my carbon is what gets replaced most, whether it is depleted i dunno, but it clogs the fastest. |

no but you should buy a proper Dow filmtec. they are the industry leaders in membranes and very high quality. it will say Dow filmtec on it. Quote:
I run a 5 micron, then a 1 micron, then carbon (I run two carbon due to the volume of water I am pushing through) the reason for the 5 micron filter is to catch the free algae in the water and prevent it from plugging the 1 micron filter. also for you people buying pre filters make sure they are 1 micron absolute, not 1 micron nominal. the latter is an average for the filter and they let particles bigger than 1 micron through and this could be plugging up carbon filters early. i've talked to ed from aquasafe before ordering my 100gpd ro unit from them and they do sell membranes separately
i believe its roughly around 60-80dollars shipped to your door |
I get a good discount at a local water purification store, if people are interested I can check into a price on 100gpd membranes.

ed's the manager at Aquasafe
membranes made by http://www.appliedmembranes.com/ |
steve, that would be cool if you can look into that. but if its a hassle, dont bother.
but i think that may be my problem, i probably have nominal, cuz i have used both the prefilter and the carbon at 1 micron, yet the carbon seems to go first. i was actually thinking of ditching the DI and going with a 5micron then a 1 micron prefilter and then the carbon and ro. |

if your DI is gone then you could ditch it but I wouldent ditch a good DI  I bought a big blue filter when I upgraded to the dual 160gpd membrains and got what they call a graduated sediment filter, it starts out as a 25micron and works its way to a 1 micron as you hit the inside. seams to be working good but it is a big filter. http://members.shaw.ca/stircrazy/ro/prefilter.jpg this uses a 10" long filter and 4" diamiter instead of the standard 2" diamiter filter most of us have. Steve/ Shao, if there is an order i'll pick one up as well. Let me know.
P.S. Steve do you get a reduced price on the clear canisters? |

Oh reefpure thats what it was called LOL Steve |
I would ask Stephane from the board. He brings in water purifiers, and his prices are pretty cheap. I bought my unit and refill from him and it was the best price I could find.
