Square Tanks?
Just wondering what people thought of square tanks? Please share your opinions! Thanks
|
you mean a cube tank?
i think they're the bee's knees |
No issues? 30" wide and 30" deep. 24" tall. 93 gallons. Does a cube tank have restrictions as far as livestock, given that it is not as long as a rectangular tank of the same volume?

i just wouldnt put tangs in a tank that isnt 6 feet wide or longer. but it might still work |
Good to know. Anyone else?

Love my cube, I have to agree with Marko in a sense about the tangs, while I'm sure a smaller tang species would be ok, they do swim miles and miles a day, so the longer tanks are better suited in that aspect. But I think cubes are so nice cause of the depth you can create with them

I think they look so elegant and sexy with that deep back ground.

I really want one and have been wanting to upgrade for a while... Other option is a 60g cube (only because of affordability and my landlord would probably freak if he saw a near 100g on the hardwood!)... What do you think? Bite the bullet and go 93g?
|
As long as you don't mind cleaning all that glass, go as big as your budget can afford. Bigger allows for much nicer scaping and more critters. Just keep in mind how long your arm is !
|
If 60G that means the tank is only 24"x24"x24", I think you will have to limit what kind of fish you have in there in the future. If I have a room for a cube tank, I won't go smaller than 36" in length. So, bite the bullet and go with 93G !

talk to untamed his 400g cube is amazing!
|
I like the cube tanks. I was going to go 24x24x24. Ended up with 30x24x24.
I would never go deeper than 27" on any tank though. It's a PITA 30"+ to work on. |

Oh yes, I agree. It is an amazing tank and it's dead quiet too. It has a classy "home aquarium" look. I didn't hear any noise like when I go to a LFS store coming from the sump like a waterfall or pumps. |
I've decided to hold off on the tank until this summer and get the 93g. I'll be kicking myself if I am impatient and get the 60g now. It is 24" deep. Haha I don't mind cleaning glass. There are a couple of fish I had in mind and would require at least a 93g for many. I only have a 26g now. Cannot wait for this summer to come!!!

You'll thank yourself when you have what you really wanted. Now you've got some time to plan.
|
Exactly... And money to save! Any cool stocking suggestions? I'm very much looking forward to it, the countdown begins :)

I have a 36" square tank, and before it got commissioned as a frag tank, I was thinking of growing 2 or 3 large monti caps in it. Would look amazing as a top viewed tank.

I had a 24" cube that I kept a huge Haddoni carpet nem with a mated pair of tomato clowns. That was all I could fit in there! Lol. Also I've got a 20" cube with a Peacock Mantis in my bedroom.

I love square tanks and built myself one back in the fall. I'd say go shorter than 24" and make up the volume with more sand area. 24" is a PITA when working on the tank (measure from your hand to your armpit and think about it). Plus the large area would give you some cool scaping options. I say go 36"x36"x18" or so.

Anyway, I have seen a lot of different tanks in person in so many years since I got into this hobby, but your tank is the only one on my number #1 list. |
