Convincing Green Chromis (Chromis viridis) to Eat Something Other than Frozen
 

My Green chromis will only eat:
a) Frozen Brine Shrimp, or
b) Marine snow

I'm not particularly agreeable to this situation. I would like to be able to feed them a variety of different things. What is the best way of going about diversifying their palates?

I started my fish on a wet mixture and added flake and pellets to it.

You can used any finely grated seafood (brine shrimp, table shrimp, mysis,etc)

I add 1 tsp of fresh garlic extract, 1/2 tsp each of Phyto and Zooplankton, and a pinch of flakes or pellets.

I let it soak for 15-20 mins then feed the tank

Now they all eat flake whenever offered, the gobies eat the pellets

I tried that. It didn't work.

Then I tried my booming "mom voice" (which works on the boys and the dog), and that sent the three of them off to hide behind the rocks in a flurry.

Hubby has advised me that I'm most persuasive when I growl. Perhaps I should try that next? :D

I'm guessing you haven't had them very long? Give them time and I'm sure they'll become less picky. My Chromis will eat anything I throw in the tank.

I've never had chromis that weren't eating everything remotely edible literally seconds after introduction. Rest assured they will soon eat anything.

I purchased them on Saturday, so I've had them less than a week. They're my first fish in ten years, and my first ever saltwater fish. I'm surprised I still have three, as I was expecting two of them to off the third with the way they were behaving. They seem to all get along, now.

Just give them time to settle in, once they get comfy, they'll start murdering each other. It's what Chromis do :)

Although, with only three, you might keep two. I always start with 12, then end up with 2 or 3. Currently I have 2 left. They would eat sand if I dropped it in the tank..

I got lucky (or you can say 7 is the new lucky number) but I still have all mine and they even sorta school still too.

Reminds me of a guy I heard on a pet show somewhere who was at the end of his rope. He was wondering if he should have a heart to heart talk with his dog, sit him down and explain to him why he shouldn't pee in the house.

I started with 13. Three years later I'm down to 3. These 3 have been around for over a year though and breed like clockwork.

My 10g tank is now blacked out (diatoms). It will be interesting to see if three days without light and very minimal food brings out their homicidal tendencies.

I tested the water in the 12 galling to see if it was cycled and if I could move them into it. Nope. Ammonia is off the charts.

I noticed the diatoms yesterday morning, and I wondered if that's what they really were. This morning it was obvious. I'm guessing that this is an indication that I've been feeding them too much. I fed them the brine shrimp for the first time on Tuesday, and two days later noted the diatoms. Oops. I tend to over feed: but not as badly with pellets and flake food.

Well, it has been several months, but the little monsters finally bumped the smallest one off. It hadn't grown at all, while the largest had doubled in size.

The "middle child" is now taking a beating and has been scared into hiding.

I'm not a fan of these fish at all. They're nasty to each other and aren't interesting at all. I should have just given them away when they were done their stint in the HT so someone could cycle his/her tank with them. :twised:
