Frag complaint

Firstly let me say a BIG thank you to those that take the time to frag and share their corals with the rest of us. Without you we would have no hobby, really you guys are the best and I appreciate your work.

My complaint is small but I want it to vocalize it. Frags on square ceramic tiles look really out of place when glued onto rock, they pull the eye and diminish the look of the coral they host. Perhaps it is just more noticeable in my nano, I donno. Sorry to bitch.

I usually buy in mounted frags and if the are mounted and encrusted. Take it off and grow out the remaining to sell off

True they probally are not the most pleasant to look at and in a nano can be alittle out of place. However, You could easily unmount the frag and putty in into your rock structure or even re glue it to a piece of lr rubble.....

It also depends on what the frag is, if its something that needs structure to spread, then I dont mind the squares. Also, I like zoas on the squares as most of mine are on the sand and gives them room to grow without being on the rock.

I put all my zoa frags on squares , and yes i agree they do look funny on the rockwork but i also find they grown into better shape over time and are less likely to run away over the edge of the tile like they all seem to whenever i get a frag on a plug.I also like to put my zoas in the sand and the tiles are great for that , got that idea from leeR`s tank where he had lots of zoas growing up out of the sand ,looked awsome.

I'm gonna get a price list from them see if we can stock them too.

Hopefully not too expensive. They do all sorts of cool rock work too.

I don't like the square plugs either so I've used my tile nippers to take off the square corners as long as I can do it without injuring the frag.

wickedfrags 03-27-2012 10:51 PM

i agree, ugly. i remove frags from anything other than live rock......just look bad. i pry them off with a razor blade and super glue them to small pieces of live rock

also - if you incorporate the "pegging" system, be certain to drill your live rock in advance

reefermadness 03-27-2012 11:51 PM

For SPS......they will encrust any plug the are on eventually and you wont even notice.

dreef 03-28-2012 03:46 AM

I want some of them, they can't be too expensive as they can't pay there host, and the website is down ?
