Avoid Redtag.ca

This is a vacation site like travelocity or expedia in canada.

They are nothing but a scam. They are knowingly advertising resorts with higher ratings than what they really are.

They advertise "price assurance" that says they'll refund the difference up to 4 days before departure if the price goes down. This is a lie.

Avoid Avoid Avoid, nothing but a bunch of clowns working there

I deal with a travel agent, same person I have dealt with for years... Her pricing and packages have always beat any online price/package from any of the major internet sites.

Because it is online, doesn't mean you will get the best price!

HEHE... Live and learn... Remember the one thread awhile back where reefers were bashing me on the SWC skimmer I bought from a LFS? I bought it also based on the price protection they offered, but did not honor... It happens to all of us, at one time or another.

lol i fought with SWC and ended up getting my money back on the broken skimmer they sold me.

i am also fighting redtag. will be reporting them to the bbb, the Competition Bureau. TICO. and anywhere else i can.

then i will go on every trip review website and make sure to post how horrible they are.

If i pursued on customer to not buy from them, i will be happy

You've pursued me.

And global designs has pursued me to contact a travel agent for my next trip. How do you know you've got a good one?

Ask family or friends if they have one.

Mine is in Calgary, with today's technologies and everything being electronic bookings. You could even use my travel agent if you wish. I have booked about 10 or so trips with her, and always she has blown others and internet out of the water.

I just went to Mexico using redtag.ca. Have nothing to say but good things. Price was amazing for a 5 star all inclusive. I've been using them for years however you have to remember that a Mexican 5 star is not the same as a Canadian 5 star. Each country has their own requirements for the ratings system.

I'd rather read users comments online and see all the pictures for myself than book blindly with a travel agent. I've done the travel agent route a few times before also and been ripped off. You got to be vigilant no matter which route you take

they advertised 5 star and then on the confirmation they sent me it said 4 star.

they knowingly lied on their website

with any sort of on-line sites between shills and trolls it's buyer beware, great if you can find an individual but careful even then

You are correct, for many tropical locations you need to subtract 1-1.5 stars from the rating you see. Big thng to remember is that a5+ star in Canada isnt the same as Mexico, Dominican or Cuban standards.

I did cuba in january for a 5* (knowing Cuban 5* is not the rest of the world 5*) through selloffvacations.com. I've been to cuba before and knew what to expect food and service wise, just wasnt't expecting sunwing to screw up the flight both ways. Mechanical issues before we left, mechanical issues on the way home. Last time I fly with them.

what happen to me is that they're advertising a hotel on their website as 5 stars.

so i bought it cuz it was five star, then when they send me my confirmation (after i paid) it says its only 4 stars.

they are knowingly advertising made up ratings to mislead customers

Weird. I booked our trip to Kauai with Travelocity as it was lower than the Resort's website and lower than two different travel agents I tried.

Ive always used Travelocity with great success...... But stupidly tried this other place because of the advertised "price assurance"

Definitely sounds shady Marko. What did they suggest to make it better for you? Anything?

nothing. i argued with the "manager" for hours over the course of 2 days.

after making my argument each time she would always say she'd have to call me back in 20 min. She never did. I ended up calling back 2 hours later and she had left for the day and doesnt work weekends. And i leave for my trip tomorrow

so ill have to deal with it when i get back.

I have used red tag, hotels.ca, and travelocity all multiple times, nothing but good to say about them. I even use them to book local hotels.

redtag its self I have used about 15 times and every one is exactly what they said. now thats not to say there is nothing bad about them only that I have been satisfied. I have also used travel agents extensively over the last 25 years and I have to say they have been the most disapointing. not for the survice but for the price of that service, unless you have a very long term relation with a agent and use them alot or you are personal friends you are not going to save money. but I see laitly there are some that are starting to compete with the online clearance sites.

what also could have happened is that the hotell changed there ratings and didn't inform the agents, or the web page had not been updated yet with the new gradings at your time of purchase.. did you ask them about it or did you just fly off the handle when you saw it?

and if it is such a big deal just call visa and cancle the charges, all done.

What did you book, exactly? What do the other sites rate this place at?

I booked a trip to Mexico.

Red tag shows 5 stars. But the tour company they're selling on behalf of rates it 4 stars.

All other sites rate it 4 or 4.5 star.

The hotels website rates it 5/6 stars.

But to me 5/5 and 5/6 is not the same thing.

Tried getting credit card company to reverse the charges but they say they are in no position to determine ratings for hotels

Aquattro 03-18-2012 04:36 PM

Sounds like you're throwing too much negativity into your trip before you even go. Relax, go to Mexico, get drunk. Enjoy.

That's what I plan on doing. I just can't sit here and let them screw me. They owe me 400 dollars as per their price assurance (because the price dropped between when a paid and 3 days before departure)

Aquattro 03-18-2012 04:57 PM

But you originally said up to 4 days. 3 days missed that by 1 day.
