SunBrite F-series
I was about to pull the trigger on 8 Radions to light my tank... this has me seriously reconsidering. I could buy 3 of the 72" fixtures for thousands less than 8 radions.
I would looooooove some input. http://reefbuilders.com/2012/03/10/sunbrite-f-series/ |
I just wonder how long until they are released.
|
good point. They say 'this month' but that's a gamble given the track record for some other product release dates.
|
I have yet see the Radions in person (still on BO, should get some soon WOOOT)...I can only judge from what I have read. If the build and over all quality is anything like their pumps then I believe they are the best money can buy.
As I said, I have yet to personally test these but 8 over a 275G? Thats seems like a lot. Do you have a 72" or 84"...36" deep or something? I know a couple of people running 3 on heavily stocked 72" SPS tanks. Ray |
also, Im not sure if anyone in Canada is distributing them:noidea:...... if there isnt a Canadian distributor for them, that means ordering them from the states and the potential warranty issues that may accompany that.....
|
This looks pretty nice. Google what attendees felt about what they saw.
|
it's a 72X34, which is too wide for one row of 3. The tank is also 27" deep, so it's actually a little more than 275 (dimensions changed a little after I started the thread).
The standard would be two rows of three by dimension, but when you follow their units per gallon rule, puts it under by about 1 light. Since I want an even number and am concerned about being able to grow clams and the like on the sand-bed, I was going to bump it up by two more units. Also, I've been following a couple tanks on RC that have used more than the recommended number on larger, deeper tanks and are having great success. There is a frag chamber in the sump that I would put the extra 2 if it ended up being overkill. Quote:

Sunbrite has done some par testing with the 36" and they saw 200 Par on the bottom of a 65Gal (36"x18x24") tank. Check out the number of LED's each fixture has http://www.reefsupplies.ca/canada/wp...umbs/4text.jpg Here are some links on what people are saying http://marine-engineers.org/2012/03/...es-first-look/ http://reefbuilders.com/2012/03/10/sunbrite-f-series/ http://www.reefs.com/blog/2012/03/09...f-series-leds/ thanks |
Darn, I just put in an order for a couple Radions last weekend. Oh well, I'll be setting up my next tank soon and I will definitely keep this in mind.
|
Are these wired in clusters so that if one led goes dead a whole cluster also dies out? I think that would be a major problem. What about replacing dead leds? These fixtures look really nice though. Is there a cloud simulation in the controller?

Im on the fence big time on this light.........
PROS: The savings are HUGE on these lights! (Costs half as much to light a tank as any other LED option) The par ratings are insane! (200 at 30") The number of LEDs in the setup is awesome! (54 on a 36") There are 6 different types of bulbs including the UV LED's which makes for a very adaptive light setup which is perfect for us maglomaniacs! CONS: They are just launching in Canada, thus making the availability limited and the wait long. They are still in the exploratory phase of the light development meaning that what they are releasing is only the 'Beta' Model. They have only Apple supported software, but the Droid software is following behind(when? no idea) The lights have no optics built in but in the future optics will be available. There are so few distributors in Canada thus making ordering a test of patience. And the good pricing is only for introductory porposes, meaning that if some of us decide to wait on future developments of this light (optics, OS combatibility for the control program, final descision on LED count and types) the price will already be increased to meet the normal Canadiam Market pricing standards. It will be very difficult for this light to pull me away from the radion which is fully combatible, cheap to fix, expandable, fully developed, availble everywhere and not too bad on pricing(compared to the vertex) |
I'm in the same boat, I'm having my display tank made that's 60" across, deciding on these lights, or the AI Vegas or the Radions.

Sorry for the late reply, I was literally up all night answering emails and pre-orders for these!
I will try to reply to your concerns with the best of my knowledge Quote:
