For what?

Would ordinary weather stripping do? It is adhesive on one side.

For my water pumps

mouse pads work, easy to cut and modify as needed to.

Anything squishy will work

Filtet sponge works too

for external or internal pump?

This will work.
I prefer closed cell foam used for large chiller condenser insulation, very thick and firm. Open cell will be squeezed and become harder and thinner.

What am I looking for at Princess Auto?

i use pink rigid sytrafoam from home depot. 1/2" sheet is $7 i think.

I have piece under my return pump and a couple under my skimmer to bring it the correct operating depth.

I am using it right now. Is it safe to use in saltwater?

1/2 Tennisballs quieted my pump down a lot.

Yep. Its inert and doesnt break down. I know lots of people who use em with out issues. Havent seen any ill effects in my sps tank.
