Trade deadline day has been a complete waste of a morning.

Was hoping for a much busier Trade day.
Lots of teams on the brink that could have helped themselves, but I guess it works both ways if you can't decide if your selling or buying.
Looks like the Nucks are trying to upgrade in a few areas.

Just glad I have mornings off and didn't take time from work for this LOL

Oilers 02-27-2012 06:13 PM

There are only 3 trades so far. It's kinda disappointing. Oilers acquired Nick Schultz for Tom Gilbert. What? Nobody wants Horcoff??

Oilers 02-27-2012 06:23 PM

Only 8 trades so far with minutes away from the deadline. No blockbuster deals either! Tambelini, you sux!!!!

subman 02-27-2012 08:04 PM

Whats even worse is vancouver makes the biggest trade of the day
:puke:

Horcoff for Nash

Oilers 02-28-2012 01:05 PM

I expect him to improve the team. I don't expect them to win the cup anytime soon but at least make the playoffs. The Oilers are no better today than they were yesterday. If they keep the status quo, I expect another rebuilding year next year and that ****es me off. When does that process end?

Rebuilding = AT LEAST a 4 year process. Let me ask you this...what would you have liked to see done yesterday?

As far as I am concerned, we have been rebuilding since 2007. I would like to see at least the Bulin wall being traded away. He's 39. The Oilers is using Dubnyk more and more and I don't think Khabibulin fits into the Oilers' future plan. I am sure some teams would love to get a goaltender of his calibre for their playoff push (Toronto for example) or as an insurance to their playoff drive (Pitt or NYR let's say). It won't cost them an arm and a leg and the Oilers can get something back in return (a draft pick or prospect). That's one move. I can give you a couple more if you like.

subman 02-29-2012 02:20 AM

I would have liked to see habby get traded too but I'm sure there were no takers at any price. he does still have 1 more yearleft on this contract. That being said I like the look of the team if you look at the philly game and last night in the Peg they looked great. They need some more experience and some more tweaks for sure but these tweaks are made in the off season not on trade deadline day. I see it coming together just slower than we all want.

Rebuilding since 2007? No. The rebuild started when they took Hall #1 in 2010. We're only in year 2. Just like Subman said, Habby's contract is way too much. If he was in his last year, possibly. Plus he's coming off an injury, he's too old and hasn't been playing very good as of late. Trade him away and who's going to back up Dubnyk?

Oilers 02-29-2012 03:04 AM

I don't think 3.75M is too much for Khabi. I am sure there are teams willing to pay that salary for the purpose I have mentioned. I just think the Oilers didn't really want to trade him or ask too much in return.
I don't know what you meant by back up for Dubnyk. This year or next year. If this year, I am sure Yan Dannis would be a fine back up. Next year, I am not completely sold on Dubnyk as a #1 goalie, I think he's a career backup at best. I could be wrong and I love to be proven wrong but I think we still need a #1 goalie in the future.
Anyway, we can debate this topics for a long long time and it wouldn't go anywhere so let's stop . I am looking forward to next year and see if we can make it to the dance again.

Just one more...Denis is a fine backup but it's not fair to take him away from OKC. He's having a great season and they're on the verge of going deep into the playoffs.

well if they had moved khabby they might have been able to pick up bernier, i guess tambelini had made an offer but they wouldnt bite on it. i really wish they hadnt signed hemsky, omark is fully capable of taking his place and i think hemsky would benefit from a new scene. i think its all kevin lowes fault

If ever a player needed a change of scenery, It's Hemsky.
I'm sure they could have signed him a lot cheaper than 5 Mill also.

I couldn't disagree more, he is coming back from a major injury and would have fetched a longer contract at the very least 5mil on the open market. The team need to fill the top six forwards and anyone who says Omark is ready is flat out wrong (Im an Omark fan but hes not ready). We all know how attracting free agents has worked for the Oilers lately. Keep the players that want to be here.

BlueTang<3 03-01-2012 12:43 PM

On the brighter side of things, I thought Schultz had a good game last night he had a few hits and seemed to jump up in the offensive zone a bit. I agree with the Hemsky signing, he is a great player when he wants to play. I noticed again last night on a few goals the oilers just don't hustle back, Hall turned the puck over then basically just coasts back if u can even call it that. I think Eager is turning into a great pickup for the Oil, he seems to be starting to care. But it was very interesting to watch the game how almost every time the Blues when they went to clear there zone no issues the puck is out, Oilers need a little work on that.

I think Eager had a slight problem earlier on when he was concussed in the Joey Moss Classic. Takes a while to get over those things but he's been looking real good lately.
