Anyone use Netflix?

I was talking to my wife about the cost of our cable vs. netflix. Does anyone use them? Are they up to date with Shaw?

paddyob 02-27-2012 03:30 AM

Google it Jason.

They went through some changes. Apparently not good ones. Lost a lot of subscribers over it.

reefwars 02-27-2012 04:04 AM

we have net flix but its through x box and telus , its ok but i still end up watching tv more though lol:P

Borderjumper 02-27-2012 04:09 AM

I tried it, every show I wanted to watch was not available in Canada.. O I dropped it.

Ryan 02-27-2012 04:12 AM

Netflix is decent but there isnt much new stuff on there especially movies.

I would recommend just downloading everything. I hear it quick and easy to do ;)

We've got it,

New movies are hit and miss but they have a lot of old classics that are fun to watch.

I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for cable because it didn't have most of the shows I really like on it. I've found it's worth having because for $8.00 a month you only have to watch two videos to pay for it (compared to renting them). We have it on our apple tv box and picture and sound is ok.

Try it out, they have a free trial period so you're not really risking anything.

No

I use a program called TED to download all our shows automatically through torrents. Downloaded shows and movies link directly to a boxee box which organizes and allows easy viewing just like a PVR. Costs nothing and works great, so great that I have shaw TV under a promo and the box isn't even hooked up. For live sporting events and news you have to watch through the web or add boxee live which I haven't tried yet.

Well then you just gave me my answer.

The Canadian version has very limited content. It's OK if you've got kids and want to occupy them, but very few recent "big" Hollywood movies or major TV shows. The US version has a lot more content, but you need some technical know-how to get it here in Canada.

reefwars 02-27-2012 04:58 AM

tubeplus .......download nothing stream movies and shows lots of good shows and movies pretty much anything you can name:p

slakker 02-27-2012 05:51 AM

It's "tier" 2 or 3 for content. After theatre or first run TV, it goes to BluRay/DVD then to private viewing like Pay per View then to Netflix... So it'll always be available elsewhere first.

But if it's not time only but for some harder to find content, it's pretty good. And cheap...

globaldesigns 02-27-2012 03:25 PM

I have it running through my blueray to the tv, plus use the same account on 3 tablets. It's ok... As others stated limited content, but I do see it improving. For the price, and the first month free, you should give it a try, and decide for yourself.

I have NetFlix but I run it through witopia so that I get the American version at home.

Nano 02-28-2012 01:09 AM

personally I like netflix.. not a huge selection, but its getting better IMO. also Projectfreetv.com is another good place to stream anything you want.

jostafew 02-29-2012 09:39 PM

Yup, been a subscriber for about a year. While I've found that the video quality has dropped (was approx. DVD quality when I started, now it looks like the average downloaded video or worse) the content has improved. Nothing really current, but they've been beefing up the TV shows which is cool. I've discovered a couple shows that I wouldn't have normally looked at, plus now they've got pretty much ALL the episodes of Top Gear so that's kept me occupied! Pretty handy to have content available at home through the PS3, on the iPhone, at work on the computer, wherever you go. I don't have regular TV, just Netflix and I use torrents to download shows if I want something recent (hurray for eztv.it!)

for 3 bucks more per month you can now get shaw's movie club added . same idea as net flix, but better quality, way way better selection, and more new stuff. basicly if it is available on PPV or VOD you can watch it with movie club.

can't even do that here. block busters shut down over a year ago and rodgers closed there doors a few months ago. all we have now is a few mom and pop rental places. one out by me has increased there selection and has lower prices than either of the two big ones did.

I was wondering if rodgers was having problems as there blue ray selection sucked and over two years never realy expanded
