Rare fish
I m trying to figure out the name of this fish and it origin. Does anyone know about this beautiful fish?
|
Whitespotted Filefish (Cantherhines macrocerus). Distribution: Caribbean, Bahamas, Florida, Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico.
|
Are this species hardy and will they acclimate in home aquarium?
|
Were you able to ask the LFS while you were there?
They can usually help you on the spot. Especially with IDs. Nice fish. |

From here: http://fishbase.org/summary/Cantherh...acrocerus.html It states that: Max length : 46.0 cm (approx 18") Also: "Feeds mainly on sponges, gorgonians, and algae (Ref. 9710) but also eats hydroids and stinging coral" Not many home aquariums have their food in a sustainable quantity. |
Yes, I was told it a rare filefish, eat almost everything. That all the information I got.

People usually buy filefish to eliminate Aptaisia. |

Calgary.

The advice you have given is great.
What reputable LFS would consider bringing in a fish that has no chance of survival in this reeefers tank. Some one should go and give their head a shake. |
