Aqua C Remora EV-180 Skimmer problems HELP!

Hey guys i have a EV-180 skimmer set up right now on my fresh 35 gallon.... It doesnt seem to want to work. I have it set up in my sump raised a good amount out of the water, the gate valve itself is still submerged by half and the water level is a good 1.5" under the top of the black box, I turn it on and I get bubbles happening but nothing breaking the top and producing skimmate. Someone please help me out if you have knowledge of this product thank you.

it should be high enough where the gate valve out put is above the water line, not submerged at all.

Are using it on a freshwater tank?

I could be wrong, but I don't think skimmers work that well in freshwater.

Thats what i was thinking.. so is it going to make the difference if it is out of the water?

yep - it changes the back-pressure within the unit

I think the new skimmer is need to take about a couple days to break in.

Well i raised it above the water and nothing, and i also ran it outside of the sump and i didnt get anything either.

Maybe there is nothing to skim ?

Cant be, tank was just set up always something to skim.

Acipenser 02-04-2012 09:10 PM

If it was just set up I doubt there is much to skim , whats your Bio load heavy ? what are you feeding a lot of things can affect skimming if it's pumping and water is getting into the collection cup I would think you just don't have enough undissolved proteins that need to be skimmed .

Trigs 02-04-2012 09:27 PM

well its all transfered water with used rock and sand, but the issue is i have a mag 5 pump on I am going out to grab a mag 9 now..

Acipenser 02-04-2012 09:34 PM

If you were closer I would give you my extra skimmer to check out - it maybe the pump or could it be the injection needle/wheel ?

phi delt reefer 02-04-2012 09:38 PM

Thats ur issue. Mag 5 isnt powerful enough. My buddy runs his with a mag 9.5 and the min is mag 7

Trigs 02-04-2012 10:06 PM

Ya exactly, i figured that was the issue from the beginning just didnt want to believe it..... haha
