Just chilling on the couch suffering thru my seasonal flu and what would you know, the sound of dripping water! Walk into the newly redone fish room to see water leaking from the ceiling onto the brand new countertop, down the brand new cabinets and onto the brand new floor, only thing with water above the fish room is the 90 gal corner tank in my sons room, yup that's what it is, was worried for a second that perhaps it was just the top off bucket leaking but lucky for me it's just a blown seam on one side, spraying water against the wall. Had to know that less than a week after the redo something like this would happen. love it when it's not an easy fix, enough rant, off to spend the night breaking down a tank and cleaning up the mess.

bummer.... but hey.. at least it wasn't a full blow out....

At least I was home, everything has been temporarily moved to a spare tank and the old one is outside, I will clean and inspect tomorrow and see if it's worth fixing.

Man I feel for you. Your title forced me to check this thread to make sure it wasn't your giant tank that blew.

Glad it was the giant tank, but that really sucks that the 90g leaked :sad:

It was the right hand seam up front, never looked good from the factory, one of the reasons I done like bow tanks, not enough glass area surface to seal properly. Funny it lasted 2 years, least it didn't happen when I was out of town last week, question now is do I replace it or rehome inhabitants?

I feel your pain! I just had my 3 month old sump magically and mysteriously crack on the bottom pain of glass. I'm not looking forward to redoing the drywall or carpet, but I am looking forward to redoing my fish room to allow for room to move.

And yes, Mr Murphy can kiss my butt.

Oy! The thought of one my tanks leaking or breaking a seal or whatever scares the crap out of me. That and velvet.

I got a 90gal sitting here if you want it, probably won't fit your space though.

I'm in the process of finishing up the rest of the basement and from someone who is ready to just enjoy a developed basement for once you have my sympathy =(

Thanks for the offer, I have 2 spare 90 's sitting here so I am good, my heart near stopped when I went in the fish room as it initially looked like it was comming from the 300, can't even imagine dealing with a leak on that. Finished cleaning up this morning, only casualty was 2 ceiling tiles, so not bad considering, one foot over and the leak would have dripped right into the 300 , considering the color of the water that was on the floor that couldn't have ended well.

oh man, now that would have been scary. I think someone on here that had their dishwasher leaking through the floor into the tank. My tank is in the basement as I wanted it on concrete slab so if there was a leak it wouldn't be a huge deal but I never even gave a moments thought to anything leaking above it!

Geez Dave what a bummer. Be thankful tho, it could have been soooo much worse.

Man that really sucks. Is the 90 FW or SW?
I managed to flood my office last monday with RO water when I messed with a bulkhead on the sump. All over our new ( just before X-mas ) carpet.
Thankfully it didn't spread past the corner or go downstairs.

It was salt, figure I lost about 10 gallons. Inspection of the trouble seam shows 4 small spots about an inch apart where the silicone failed to bond, looks like someone with oily fingers picked up the piece of glass during assembly.

Wow, good thing you were home at the time! Still sucks though. Makes me wonder about my 90g bow.

That's why Bob would never carry bow fronts in stock, failure rate was too high. You should be fine with yours, mine was el-cheepo all glass brand, make a good hamster cage for someone, would be an easy fix but been there done that, too old for rebuilding tanks, most likely toss it in the recycle bin.
I am just glad it did not drip into the 300, think that would have been the end for me.

Things like this scare the crap out of me. I'm glad it was a small-ish disaster for you rather than a big disaster. Although if you had water dripping through the ceiling to the lower floor you could very well have a lot of work to do to fix it up. :(

Think on the bright side, at least it didn't spray saltwater onto the electrical and burn your house down. That scares me the most.

Lucky for me I put a drop ceiling in the fish room, only have 2 tiles to replace. There was a power bar that got wet but it tripped the gfci so I was lucky that way. Trying to convince my boy to do away with that tank but he has allways had a tank in his room and wants a replacement, I guess I'll have to buck up as I really have nowhere to put that livestock anyway.

Mine is all on GFCI too, but I still worry... :eek:
