Do you pick favorites?

I can't help it.. I pick favorites... Out of everything we've bought and owned in our tank so far:

Favorite coral: My lime green and red brain coral. This guy this is so cool and fun to feed. I like how he's more challenging than the others corals we've owned so far. Sure we are still learning and brains are considered relatively easy to keep but this guy helped me build a bit of confidence about the whole coral keeping endeavor.

Favorite livestock: The cleaner shrimp. We have two but the first one is my favorite. He's got such an awesome personality and I feed him by hand every night. He expects it by now and is always waiting at the top of the tank by 8 pm for me. I like him even more than our fish. He's always out and about and whenever we approach the tank he rushes up to the front and shows off for us.

So... who are your favorites?

fishytime 01-29-2012 03:16 AM

my fav fish would have to be my powder blue.....I had the worst luck with these fish....I had tried and failed a number of times with "powder" tangs...so many times in fact that I had said that I wouldnt try one again......until, a customer brought the one I have now in to the shop when he shut his tank down.....the fish was in excellent health and was perfect, not a blemish on him.....Ive had him for about a year now and he is by far the most active and playful fish in my tank......

fav coral is my aussie scoly.....because, well, its gorgeous:mrgreen:

pics dont do this coral justice its real color in person is sooooooo vibrant :)

reefgirl189 01-29-2012 03:23 AM

Hard to tell from the pic but how big is he? He's beautiful

Lampshade 01-29-2012 03:27 AM

I definitely have. My Bariene Tang is by far the favourite in my tank. I've made all other livestock purchases around the one fish. It's the reason I only have one tang in my tank, so that he doesn't have any stress.

My favorite coral WAS my large blue tip acro colony, but it's recently seen some rough times :(.

Coralgurl 01-29-2012 03:30 AM

My fave corals so far are my first 3, frog spawn, button and metallic green bubble. Got them in august and they've gotten huge!

Fave fish is my solar wrasse. Very active, swims to me when I come to the tank and rubs against my hand when I'm in the tank.

My cleaner shrimp freak me out...lol

lockrookie 01-29-2012 03:35 AM

my favourite fish would have to be my humu picaso trigger

favourite coral pearl bubble coral and ora green toadstool...when it pops up lately it hasnt been happy.

Snappy 01-29-2012 03:36 AM

I always have favorites but my choices can change from week to week, especially with corals.

I always told ppl I was a coral guy but I treat my new maculiceps like some would a new puppy! My interest in the hobby is at an all-time high since getting him. I spent 4 hours rescaping and simplifying the tank layout around his swimming needs yesterday. Just got him eating NLS pellets today and his personality is starting to show. My new goal is to hand feed my gentle giant.

Fav coral is a bright blue sps brad (abcha0s) gave me. Unsure of Id but after months of no change it has started sprouting branches in the new tank. I watch it so closely I know how much it grows week to week no prob!

mattdean 01-29-2012 02:26 PM

I love all my fish equally, although I go to extra lengths to keep my Marine Betta and the other fish are glad because they get meaty foods at least every other day :)

I was told i would never see it and may rarely see it eat. Well, it hides very little and eats very well.

Here's a video of her eating.

My favorite atm is my scooter blenny, mostly because his personality, but also he is my biggest accomplishment in the tank so far

whatcaneyedo 01-29-2012 05:41 PM

After I read Aquarium Corals by Borenman I really wanted a Platygyra with purple walls and green valleys. It took me about 3 years and nearly $300 to find the specimen that matched the colours and growth form that I was after. I bought and later sold 3 different corals just because they looked close and I thought that would satisfy my craving. Once I finally found the one that I was truly after I nearly lost the entire colony on the two day drive home because it didn't have enough water in its bag. But 1/2 of it survived and is doing well to this day. If I were to have only a single massive coral in my tank this would be it.

Is that the same thing that sphelps had in his old tank? I loved that thing as well. Yours is sweet too and I too would love a big ball of stony coral.

whatcaneyedo 01-30-2012 01:58 AM

Yes I think he did have the same thing only larger.
