Tset kits

Which test kit do you guys think has the most accurate readings???

Aquattro 02-18-2004 02:14 PM

Salifert. Or Hach.

colorimeters or spectrophotometers are the only test "kits" I like to use, no guessing, very accurate! A little pricey,but...
The Chemtester CM-750 is a colorimeter capable of measuring water quality using the Aquarium Systems Test Kit Refill Reagents.

Tests:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate (High Range)
Nitrate (Low Range)
Phosphate
Copper
Marine pH

•The LCD display shows readings in mg/l (ppm).
•User friendly - Self timed menu driven tests.
•Simply follow the instructions on the screen.
at only $329 at J&L its a steal in my books, works pretty good to.

I like to use the lamotte colorimeter and spectrophotometer, but they are $1000 and $2000 respectivley, colorimeter has 40 programed tests with 25 extra programable tests, spectrophotometer does 250 tests and can data log for computer download.

for a hobbiests the chemtester at J&L is a great buy! and then a few salifert test kits to supplement it for reefing

Yes, I prefer this

But like I said, the Salifert kits are nice.

Brad, can I send a weekly water sample to you for "analysis" with your very cool $45,000US toy? Or even your $27 salifert test kits?

Doug, if you can't afford a couple of these for a mere 45k US, maybe you can grab one of the 2k ones from Kyle!
I unfortunately had to leave mine GC/MS at school in the lab

BCOrchidGuy 02-18-2004 06:13 PM

damn they get so funny about folks taking stuff...
I was thinking about one of those Chemtester Pluses but after the tank is cycled I don't test for ammonia or nitrate unless there is a problem so I'd end up with a redundant pH monitor.

Ya, they had a new ICP-MS that was really cool, but I couldn't fit it thru the doorway.

Did I mention that salifert makes good kits?

BCOrchidGuy 02-18-2004 06:17 PM

Salifert huh, no I don't think you did... I was just thinking of all the live rock I could buy though for the price of a few Salifert test kits.. lol.. maybe I should go back to making foam airplanes, much cheaper. lol.

I once had a Lear jet made out of foam. It was really fast and surprisingly light (it was made from foam, remember). It could seat 9 passengers and fly to the moon on a tank of unleaded!!

If 45K is too much for a little piece of mind then maybe this hobby is just not for you

Tell, ya what. For 45k US, I'll come to your house once a week and test your water for you. How's that for customer service??

BCOrchidGuy 02-19-2004 04:47 AM

yeah.. see you live in Victoria, you're used to Customer Service (CS) over here, we're used to BS...
