Encouraging pineapple sponge
I use to have a butt load of pineapple sponges in my tank but it looks like something ate them or they died.
Anyone know what I can do to start growing them? I could even set up a separate tank |
I know in my tank they grow we're there is little light. I also use tap water in that tank.

I think they grow well when they have nutrients. If they decline, your water must be in better shape.
If there aren't any left, I guess you will have to import one from a friend, to see if it multiplys. Are there any in the sump? |
Got a sump? They grow in my overflow and sump...don't see them in the tank.
|
Yeah I've got a sump with a bunch of rock. But no sponges on the underside of any of the rocks

Mine grow in my sump and my old remora c hob I have modded for sponges in my sump. Modded by mistake lol. But it works great.
|
Modded how? I think I might set up a dark 10 gallon just to grow these
|
+1, Zeovite sponge power. I have tons of non-photosynthetic sponges in my tank and I feed sponge power each day two drops per day in my 75 gallons along with amino acid.

Thanks guys. And this powder can be used stand alone?
|
It's not a powder it's a liquid in a little bottle. It's pretty expensive but since you only use 1 drop per 25 gallons it last for a very long time, even in large tank.

cool, thanks for the info.
im probably just gonna set up a 10-20 gallon tank specifically for growing sponges..... then feeding them manually to my moorish idol |
Do a little googling on cryptic refugiums, lots of good info out there!
