Pretty good start.

What other equipment do you plan on using in the setup?

mr_alberta 02-13-2004 12:48 AM

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the compliment! I also have a CPR Bac Pac skimmer running off of a maxijet. I was thinking about using 2 sumps or 1 sump w/liverock and another for a refugium. Also, one of the pumps will be going through a SCWD and the other through a 3/4" SS. There should be some random motion in my ocean!

Cheers.

What is the color temp of the SA bulb?

Walter

mr_alberta 02-13-2004 01:30 AM

Hi Walter,

The Sun Aquatics bulb I have is 10000K.

whaase 02-13-2004 01:35 AM

Is it that blue in person? I like the look!

Walter

mr_alberta 02-13-2004 02:37 AM

It actually is quite blue. Hopefully my rics and zoas will really color up under these lights.

Gujustud 02-13-2004 06:19 AM

looks awesome!

That colour is unbelievable. I had a SA 10000K bulb that was pee yellow. (I have pictures in "pictures" forum.) Yours appears to be more blue than I would tolerate.

Buccaneer 02-13-2004 04:24 PM

Bob ... it is not so surprising as the majority of the SA 10K bulbs are either white or white/blue ... you only hear a lot of noise about the ones that are not perfect

Canadian 02-13-2004 07:24 PM

How are you plumbing that thing? Are you going to place an acrylic overflow box around those two upwards turned elbows you have on the back of the tank, or are you just going leave them as they are? Because that tank is going to be incredibly noisy without an overflow box and a modified Durso or Stockman overlow.

mr_alberta 02-13-2004 08:07 PM

I was going to do some test runs with some fresh water to see how noisy they really are. I was going to run two external dursos on the tank. I'm still looking for some betta boxes to use as overflows, but I can't find anything deep enough.

Bob, did you ever find out if your bulb was a mislabelled 10000K? I believe I read somewhere that Venkiw had gotten some 10000K bulb that were really 6500K.

you do have your actinics on in that pic.. right?

Steve

mr_alberta 02-13-2004 10:43 PM

In the first pic I do not have my actinics on. I did notice the light turns less blue once it is on longer. Is that normal?

StirCrazy 02-14-2004 01:41 AM

I would say it is not normal for a 10K bulb to be that blue.. looks like there 14K bulbs. if they sell that as a 10K I would say they are seriously miss repersenting there product.

Steve
