Copper treatment tank can it be reused?
I have a 10 gl tank used to treat fish with copper. Is this tank useless now for anything else? I would like to try sps and thinking about setting up just a small tank. We are rearranging things around in the house so a small tank would work well in what is now the office but being moved.

You might want to replace the silicone though. Glass won't absorb copper but the silicone probably did.

silicone dosent realy absorb copper either just make sure youve cleaned the tank out well befor you use it.

the ansewer is no......do not use the tank for a reef
|
you can run CupriSorb if it's just the tank. If it's in the powerhead, any filters, plumbing, etc, I'd buy new. Not worth losing stuff over it.

based on the relative low cost of glass tanks and the high cost of SPS, not worth the risk

have to agree with doug a new tank is only like 20 bucks top and def not worth the risk hell i wouldnt risk it if it was any tank for that matter :) |
Use it to store pennies.

Your sps would die. Almost guaranteed. Copper in even tiny doses can kill sensitive sps.
I was at an LFS and the manager told me that someone got a small amount of sand from one of the tanks to "seed" his sand and it killed all the corals (established tank with new sand bed). Definitely not worth it. |
Tank was cleaned out and put away today. Not going to use it for anything. I'm slowly trying sps in my current tank, will stick with that. And everyone is right, small tanks are cheap anyway. Penny bank it is! Thanks:biggrin:
