Need rare zoa/paly pricing...

Hey guys,

I have been wanting to add some nice rare zoas to my tank (frag rack grow rack at first) for a few months now and know a reefer willing to ship them. Anyone know the approx. going rate for the following:

Utter Chaos
Space Monsters
Rastas
Candy Apple Reds
Woodstocks
Red Hornets
Sunny D
Darth Maul
Red Hornets
Blue Agave
Everlasting Gobbstoppers
Tyree Armaggedon II

I have not seen these in the stores so I dont know pricing, though I would ask the zoa/paly experts here...

yikes that quite the expensive list, depends where you get them they can be found online up to $40/polyp for some of those, prob 20 if you can find them in an lfs before someone else does if your really lucky you may find some at $10 a head or less......all of those are hard to find if not impossible at an lfs and when they do show they are gone ike...snap ;) buttttttttt if you do find any for cheap ill take some off ya when they growww hehehe:):)

having ultra rare zoas is like a license to print money lol ;PPPPPP

BlueTang<3 11-02-2011 03:45 AM

Good luck finding space monsters for less than 100 a head... Candy apples usually go for 40 a head sunny d around the same. Best bet would be check with Paul at Oceanic corals or Ken at Blue world they get them in.

its crazy eh once you start to get a couple you start to notice all the ones you really want, alot of people dont understand untill you see some of theses corals in person how insanely coloured they are and some of the patterens are just mesmorizing:):) im setting up a small cube tank in my room just for ultra rare zoas and palys cant wait to actually do some trading again with all the hardcore zoaholics hehehe:)

That's just sad my friend. I hope your wife/gf doesn't read this on Canreef. Hehehehehe.

I've dreamed of LPS corals and fish, never zoas & palys.:redface:

+1 on both accounts, single polyp frags have stupid death rates.

Count me in! Coming to Calgary any time soon?

dc4 11-02-2011 04:55 AM

Erp, now im getting a little scared...

There is no way I can get a few polyps of each of the ultra rare ones. My wife wouldnt be my wife anymore, lol!

Ill ask him about the survival rates of his frags before sending payment.

yeah its a mexican standoff if you buy lots your prob divorced and if you buy few then she stands to say " i told you so "lol

the payoff from them is huge once they grow and you can easily get your money back, if you can get a multi polyp colony that is already showing signs of new babies is even better a friend of mine just gave me a rock with some nuclear greens it had 3large polyps and 9 babies and now just one week later instead of 12 polyps there are 14 and most of the babies are a bit bigger so when theres new growth happening it happenes fast. it stands to reason the more polpys there are the better chance of it creating new heads and thus growing healthy.....a reproducing zoanthid is a healthy zoanthid:)

dc4 11-02-2011 05:13 AM

Mannnnnnnn, now I dont know what to do...

Guess ill see how long most of the single polyps have been cut for and sitting in his tank.

fishytime 11-02-2011 05:49 AM

I got one of those 1 polyp CARs too and Laurie said it hasnt opened yet......hasnt melted but has opened.....got my fingers crossed...

That sucks, it all melted? I saw the frag set aside for you (last Sat.) and one of the polyps on it was open and looked really good.

reefermadness 11-02-2011 02:38 PM

Go big my friend. Single polyp frags are just silly......you are probably doubling or tippling your chance for disappointment.

It would be 3 polyps or nothing for me. And if you absolutely can't afford more morphs find a friend to buy the other morphs and when they grow out you can trade back and forth.

BlueTang<3 11-02-2011 03:39 PM

Could not agree more I paid 1200 for 8 small frags of zoas never lost one and now they are growing like mad totally worth it considering all the stories I read and hear of the frags I got melting.

daniella3d 11-02-2011 04:26 PM

++1 Seem they do much better when there is at least 3 polyps.

Both my blue hornet and purple hornet 1 polyp frag melted. 100$ down the garbage.

I later got a 5 polyps frag that is doing very well. Maybe you would be better off to start with larger frags with less variety and when you can frag them then get some other variety.

It is so sad how many beautiful paly and zoas are available in the USA and so little here in Canada.

Well, he states that for the last 100 frags, hes only had to replace 3 of them and is giving me a live guarantee. He will replace any that are doa within a reasonable timeframe on the next order so it makes me feel better. Payment has been sent and the shipment should be sometime next week to give the new frags some time to heal. Now Im excited again... :bounce:

daniella3d 11-03-2011 01:18 PM

Cool! good luck with all of them. Those are absolutely awesome.

If I had such collection I would definitly put up a zoa only tank, so that nothing would possibly interfear with them. I would be so scared of losing them! lol!

Hope they multiply well! show us some pics :)
