Maxi mini anemone

I was told about maxi mini's a week ago and I ended up getting one. Very cool smaller 2-6 inches anemones.

Some info on them

Here's mine

" they are favoured by Sexy Shrimps..." LOL

Shamed that they don't host clowns. My long tentacle anemone is getting huge. I'd like to exchange him for a smaller anemone for them.

Would really like to see colors like those in the pictures (orange, red, purple, yellow) in the LFS.

Not good. Another animal to obsess over. And you can't have just one, either, like Dawn said.

noirsphynx 10-08-2011 05:36 PM

Here's mine. It's blue with a pink mouth and base, has a green skirt and the tips of all the tentacles are pink. It hosts a white porcelain anemone crab. I really do need a couple/few more nicely coloured ones but must wait for now.

Thanks for the link, I picked one up too, couldn't decide with one with the red in it or the green one that sort of looked like a ric, but I went with a red one like yours.

bkelly 10-08-2011 05:47 PM

I got a purple with green edge one just a while ago. its really healthy sticky found a good spot. It sure reacts fast when i feed it. Thats cool about the anem crab, i may put one in for it!

noirsphynx 10-08-2011 05:50 PM

I'd also like to get some mini min's but I haven't ever seen them around. Here's a thread I follow on NR that has some jaw dropping gorgeous nems.

Any pics to show off?

ALang 10-08-2011 05:53 PM

Love your Blue one, too, Dawn.
Boy, you girls take awesome pictures!
Maybe we need to have a lesson from you two for one of our up-coming Reefer's Meeting?? Along with Steve's Fragging workshop.

So did you have to purchase your crab along with the anemone, or did your existing crab find it in the tank?
I would love to have one of these and introduce some Sexy Shrimps along with it, but am terrified that one of my resident fishes would think that I am treating them with tasty snacks!

Lol, it'a called an expensive DSLR "point and shoot" that you have no idea how to fully use

I had the nem for quite a while before the crab. I brought the crab home and after acclimation I put it in a small net and I released it where the nem was and it was love at first site, the crab hasn't moved an inch from the nem since  I haven't had the mis-fortune of loosing any fish to it thank goodness but yes they can eat small fish. It's usually the "clumsy, not too bright" fish who end up as food. All my fish seem to know to stay away from it.

Boy I love that orange/ green and peach colored one!
This can get dangerous ( the obsession). I MUST resist. With so many color variations, how to stop at just one or two?

Ummm, BTW, HOW much do these go for??
I need another job!

I have bougth six over the last year in some nice colours. I myself can not keep them from bleaching in my tank. No matter where I put them. Medium light, low light, in a cave they all bleach. Even in my frag tank under t5's. It really upsets me I can't keep these unbleached because they are so colourfull and they stay in one spot close to where you place them.

How long did you have them before they bleached? I've had mine for almost a week it's under T5's about 2 feet away from the light but the bulbs are old and I was meaning to replace them soon. However I don't want to bleach my maxi mini

Hawkaholic 10-08-2011 07:01 PM

I got this little guy almost a year ago...lost him a few times....he wouldn't stay put. After seeing the other mini nems...I want more!!! :twised::twised:

I've had mine under T5s and 250W halides...pretty much everywhere in the tank and it never lost color...could be something else besides the lighting.

ALang 10-08-2011 07:08 PM

Thanks for sharing that Chowder.
More people post about problems, the better we can understand them.

I will have to go check them out then. Thanks.
$40 I can afford...if they have any nicely colored ones left, that is.

ALang 10-08-2011 07:09 PM

Hey, Hawk, ready to frag that little guy??
It is BEAUTIFUL!!

Thanks...I'm not sure if I can cut up the little bugger lol.

toytech 10-08-2011 08:44 PM

Ive got 4 of these now and they take realy well to being cut up , they heal quick .

Delphinus 10-08-2011 09:20 PM

I've lost two seahares to mine. 2-3 days after being put in they find the mini carpet and that's the end of that.

Pretty colours though!

They all starting bleaching around the two week mark for me. There are alot of people that have had success with these. Just keep in mind they are a low light anemone. In my main tank they were under 14K 250W halides.

It's possible . I still have 5 . I did loose one to a power head. when I first got them. There are three in my frag tank and two in my main tank in the shade . None of them have shown any hint of there colour comming back.

They are one of the easiest anemone to frag or cut. The handle it well and fully heel with in a month so I have read.

That's weird...I'm wondering if putting one in a different tank would change things. If you have a buddy with a tank maybe place one in there and see what happens.

noirsphynx 10-13-2011 02:30 PM

My newest surprise. My husband surprised me with this one.

daniella3d 10-13-2011 02:49 PM

Interesting. Mine was at the bottom of the tank when I had my old metal halide 14 plusright but then I replaced that with a Phoenix 14k brand new and it moved right underneat the MH. Go figure, I guess Phoenix bulbs are not that strong, and even my maxi mini agree.

Now it's pretty close to the metal halide and seem happy. It also changed color as it was light pink when I got it and now it's much darker in color. I think it was a bit bleached before. I would not call mine low light though.

Wow, they are beautiful. Does anybody have one that they want to sell or know any LFS carrying them?

Blue Ram 10-13-2011 08:44 PM

Any retailers in Calgary have them in stock?

Carmen 10-13-2011 09:12 PM

We have a few in right now at the Calgary Store! Cute little things! I have a couple too!
I'll try to get a couple pics up of the ones in the Calgary store.

SteveConn 10-13-2011 11:20 PM

Looking for one

Anyone have a colorful one they want to sell or frag? LFS seems to have only muted colored ones :-/
