Purple Death Palys
Wondering if any one has any advice here. I purchased a Purple Death frag about 2-3 months ago. They are growing well and I occasionally feed them pellets. Only one problem... they are brown. Currently in a low flow area with medium to low lighting half way down my tank.
Did I just get ripped off with some brown palys or is this normal? |
Need to see a picture. Mine are really purple
|
My iPhone camera actually makes them look more purple than they are haha. Dam it iPhone you see better than I do!
http://applications.ccusa.com/martin/purple.jpg I think taking this picture confirms they are Purple Deaths. Any advise on getting them to color up or just be patient? |
I also recently purchased some locally. I put mine in medium to high light. They seem to be doing well. I'm not amazed by the colour though, but that's probably because of my lack of lighting spectrum...
|
What kind of lights do you have? I thought they liked low lighting but perhaps im wrong.
|
ive always found my nukes a pd's did better in less light or ambient lighting.from the pic above they are purple deaths.
|
Yep looks like it to me as well.
Sometimes it takes a bit for things that you buy to adjust to your tank. Even in diffrent tanks that I have the same corals don't look the same. Give it some time thet seem to be doing okay. Mine are under 250w at about 24 inches and have always done well. |

i gave steve a frag of the cinnamons and the purple deaths not sure if they grew out of not but jphong got all my best stuff including my colony of nuclear greens which was around 40 heads and levi got the rest ;) jphong sold all his stuff and left it all with ken at blueworld and he was n ice enough to cut me some frags of them before they sold, they are at blueworld now awaiting me to pick them up so i get my tank sunday and then ill go get them:)
martin the purple deaths like less light somewhere almost shaded if can be and for me they grew really fast ;) |
I miss those El Grandes, I grew that colony from a single head. I have some still but only just getting it's third head now.

haha nice reason i say is because the guy who i gave mine to gave his to ken and i was just assuming he would have sold them at frag fest...could be wrong though |
Jphong did not have any left at the frag fest and was asking a little to much for what he was selling but his equipment was priced good, got a few thing myself.
|
They're in my brothers tank, they're about the size of a soft ball
|
For what its worth, I got a small colony of Purple Deaths a few weeks ago and they turned brown as soon as they went into my tank. This was about three weeks ago? They are at the bottom of my tank in a low to medium flow area and are now losing their brown and starting to purple up.

The colony is the size of a softball in Corey's tank... Its one of the few things that survived being in the dark for a week (courtesy of his skeezy ex)

i found the same thing , i kept mine kind of hidden under a ledge where they were getting the light but it was less intense, flow wasnt to great in my zoa tank anyways so i also believe they wouldnt do well with high flow but cant say for sure as i didnt have them in a high flow tank.they did love my actinics though;) |

now that you got them in a good spot do as the old saying goes " dont pick at it and let them grow" lol they dont like to be handled often and if you can leave them in one spot they like they should take right off:) beautifull arnt they:) the nuclear greens were so vibrant it was favorite colour green in the hobby:) |

that would be awesome thanks man:)
its been almost 6mths since ive heard back from coralpedia this is the message they sent me -CoralPedia.com- Heya, I think they are unique to CoralPedia. They have some Speckly GPE flavor to them, but different enough that we could add them with their own ID here if you like? Just let us know what you'd like to call 'em. :) tried emailing them but as usual they are sooooo slow lol ***** sorry for the hi jack********** lol |
My pink and gold paly need a lot of light to be really colorful. If they are at the bottom of the tank they are just plain brown, but when I put them right under the metal halide they take a very beautiful gold center with pink skirt.
Palythoas need a lot of light in general. brown = not enough light Quote:

quite possible i had around 10 different kinds that looked like that , the worst thing about them is they are hard to get a solid photograph of because of the pink mixed with purple , i used up all my resources trying to find pink dalmations as they use to be my favorite for people eaters and i bought so many look alikes and every time i was like " yes..finally" lol |
lol i have so many and the more i search to see what they are the more confused i get lol
